If it is disclosed to the potential buyer as a clone and stated as such on the title you are fine ... The trouble begins when buyers who don't do their homework buy a clone as a original which I agree would be pretty impossible with a Shay.

Looking at some of the Birds I don't think it takes much for them to become "salvage"

True Ediron... Isn't the trunk fiberglass? And of course all of the plastic that makes up the bumpers...

Regardless of the make and model of the wrecked vehicle, it still comes down to what will cost the insurance company the least amount of money... 1) Rebuild the car. 2) Pay off the car and recover some of the loss by selling the wrecked body.

The Insurance Company decides the final value at the time, and pays what they believe is fair to rebuild or total out. If their payment doesn't cover the pay-off to clear the title, then either the owner or the Gap Policy coughs up the difference.

Plus unless you raise holy h*ll most insurance companies want to rip you off by basing the pay-off on the wholesale book value.

There has to be more damage than meets the eye to both these cars. If both
front airbags deploy that's a chunk of change but the yellow one did not de-
ploy. I do believe the only metal skin are the rear quarter panels and doors.
The rest is some kind of plastic I don't even think its fiberglass.

P.S. Lots of junkyards on the Boston Post Road back then.

Boston Post Rd. now your hitting back home .Post Auto Wreckers across from the Old Wedge Inn was my hang out growing up. They built me a tranny for my '56 Ford that took a lot of power shift's.

Thanks fir the info Joseph. I wonder how some of these people are getting away with stuff like that, without getting in trouble. And then you show two perfect examples for my evil plan... I couldn't afford it anyway. I'll just keep my lightly customized retro bird. It's paid for and I love it! Ed
