  • WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO OF PICKING HER UP!

    Well,
Haven't been on in awhile but it is finally time! Should be headed to Arkansas to pick up my 'bird!!!!! I can't wait! The concern I have is this...after basically sitting in the garage for almost 1.5 years should I trailer it home or have the local garage go through it and drive it home? I know,I know driving it home is what its all about but I am concerned that after sitting that long we could run into trouble on the way home and be stuck needing repairs. The trust company had the Ford garage change the oil and replace the battery awhile back but should I be concerned about anything else?
    Thanks in advance

Kurt, If the battery is almost new and the oil and filter have been changed I don't think I would worry about anything else. You might want to check tire pressure and all other fluid levels but that should be about it.

Fuel is an issue! If it has had fuel in it and unrun for a long time, it may be a problem on the way home. I would take it down to a shop that can clean the fuel system and change the fluids in it before I took a trip in it. The fuel filter is under pressure and needs a dealer (IMHO) to change. Just my .02 worth!

Also, the COP issue may be something you'd want the dealer to check before you make like a cow chip and hit the trail!

      Congrats on the new bird!

I would also get an extended warranty from Ford. There are several threads on TBN on this issue.

Kurt, depending on where/how it's been stored, you might want to check the electrical systems as thoroughly as possible, it seems that sometimes mice make nests in parked vehicles. That being said, if they did move in, our 'Birds have enough sensors to let you know right away if there is a problem. Best wishes on your first "road trip".
