I've tried different approaches, all four tires at 32 psi works best for me.

My tire dealer told me that the car companies only care about the ride as far as air pressure goes. Tire dealer said to keep tires at 40PSI to get maximum tire life and performance.

40 psi must be like riding on solid rubber tires, sure can't see a tire that hard having good traction. Back in the day we used to put 45/50psi so we could burn them up doing burnouts!

Only two menbers in the poll referenced in post #2 voted 40+psi.

the reason is that the outside of the tires are wearing down and my tires are at 40 psi I am going to have the allignment checked out but it drives straight as an arrow.

Tom,
I see you recently purchased your Tbird this year. Perhaps the prior owner never rotated the tires. I am a firm believer in rotating the tires, according to the owner's manual, about every 5000 miles to help them wear evenly. I'm sure you are aware that the front tires take a beating on corners which of course will make the edges wear faster than the rest of the tire. Perhaps this is the cause of your problem. In addition, too little air will make the edges wear fast and too much air will make the center of the tread wear fast. Hope this may help a little.

I use 30 psi all around. My original tires on the Bird lasted 60,000 miles. You have to remember, whatever your tires read when they are cold the pressure will go up 2 to 3 pounds after they are warm.

I go with what the manual tells me on all my cars.

I don't pretend to be smarter than the manufacturer.

That said, auto crossing and drag racing often require huge deviations from the stock settings to achieve the best results.

The T-Bird is no racer, it's a cruiser. It's not very powerful and despite near perfect balance, front to back, it's not set up for aggressive cornering so I find myself using the 30pd recommendation at all times.

Is that what it says.The tire says 44 my tire dealer said I could drop 10% and be ok so I put them at 40#. Did all the tbirds come with the same tires. I don't want to get into an arguement over tire pressure but if Spence got 60,000 out of his orginal tires at 30# that good enought for me. I'd assume they were the same brand on his 02 as mine and at 30# my car would surely ride better. Might just try that on the way to Dearborn

Art, They all came with the same tires and if you look at your door jam that is the info they have printed on the sticker.

I have owned Ford Cars/Trucks all my life and getting real close to age 62. I have never had a tire problem for what that is worth.

Quick Note - What is printed/embossed on the tire is the maximum allowable pressure for that tire as determined by the tire manufacturer. It has nothing to do with the vehicle manufacturer's reccommended setting for the tire on your vehicle.

Yeah I agree with you Spence just most of the time what's on the tire generally comes close to what the auto manufacture says in their manual. I'm going go with what you and so many others have said. Like I said if you got 60k in Fla that's good enought for me. Thanks
