I would stay with one of the T-Bird standard wheels ... course that's just my opinion

Jim, I'm with you, even if I could afford other wheels I like the ones that came with the car. I like the 7 spoke on the 02 and 03's. The NM are nice but I wouldn't like to have to clean them.

I think the best looking wheels on these cars are the Wire Wheels with White Walls. The NMs are way over rated, to me they look like the wheels they put on Hummers. Just my opinion. Leroy

I HAVE SOME OF ALL THE FACTORY WHEELS, THE NMs AND THE 007s ARE VERY PRETTY, BUT HARDER TO CLEAN. THE SEVEN SPOKE WITH THE CENTER CAPS AND PAINT ARE THE VERY BEST ALL AROUND. AND THAT IS MY OPINION.

I feel that these 245/40R 18-inchers give the Bird an entirely different aura:

              Jim,
I agree with you. Of course I have been accused of being too conservative about modifications, but with wheels you are really tampering with the original concept; placing something very modern/oversized on a retro design. That is also just my opinion.

PS. great picture of your bird.

Re: Best Looking Wheels for a 2004?

Most of us tolerate other's opinions because we are nice. Some are usually harder to swallow than others.

With that said, it depends on what your priorities are. More bling or easier to clean - it seems those two things rarely go together. The 02-03 chrome 7 spokes are fine looking wheels and easy to clean, but do not have the bling factor that some of the other options do.

You actually already own a great wheel for adding bling. Have your 16 spokes chromed and then you will have some very nice looking bling that will really set your car off.

If I didn't have the hard to clean Hummer look, then the 16 spoke wheels you already have with chrome plating would be my second choice. They won't be easy really to clean but they will look great on your car when they are clean.

Here is a picture of a T-bird with the chromed 16 spokes that I took at the 55th Anniversary Show in Dearborn.

I am kind of partial to the 16 spokers with a splash of chrome as well.

Re: Best Looking Wheels for a 2004?

I had the same 16 spoke rims on my 05 Cashmere and also wanted something easier to clean. Due to bolt circle, offset, backspacing etc. aftermarket rims were few and far between. Since the Linclon LS and Jaguar S Type are the same size as our T'Bird, you may check them as well. I ended up with a Chrome 10 Spoke from a Jaguar S Type, put a 3 bar spinner from a Mustang GT with a Ford Blue Oval center cap in place of the "Growling Jaguar" center cap, it fit perfect. Will TRY to upload a photo here, if it doesn't work photo is in my gallery as well as Dots site. Can see the wheel up close as well as on the car over all. Linclon had some nice rims but I'm not sure what center caps would fit.

18" wheels seem like the perfect size. Lot's of 19" examples out there but for me the sidewalls start to get too short.

When I started wheel-shopping, I read all the appropriate threads here I could find, and combed the Gallery to help me decide which size to go with. I decided on 18", but like so many other aspects of personalizing our cars (or not), my own opinions are purely subjective.

I'm not quite sure who started the NM wheels are hard to clean but quite honestly after having both the standard chrome 2003 and the NM on my bird both are a piece of cake to clean. It takes me less than 5 minutes to wipe my MNs down. I guess it depends on the size of your index finger, mine fits between the spokes. The other thing that works great on them is a swiffer duster. Don't let the "harder to clean" hoopla put a damper on your decision, they're not all that much harder to clean.

You bet! Looking at other people's ideas can save you a lot of money and potential mistakes while also potentially revealing something you'll like that you hadn't considered.

Opinions of what looks good are hugely varied.
You see everything from wired wheels and white walls to super low profile 19 and 20" examples of the most modern designs available.

Wheels may well be the single most dramatic thing you can bolt on that "personalizes" you car and represents your taste.

So many choices out there now. We sure have come a long way from Chrome Cragar SS and Aluminum slots in 14 and 15" sizes alone as the only choices when moving away from "stock"
