What's happening? My wife's 'bird, (a gorgeous '05 Cashmere) just went 159 miles and the fill-up was for 14.76 gallons. That's 10.77 mpg EEK! True we are talking about in town mileage, (New Rochelle, NY) with the a/c on; but really shouldn't we be doing better?.

Re: 10.77 mpg
in town driving with probably ethanol in the gasoline which is said to reduce gas mileage. I know we got better gas mileage in our 02 back in 02 and 03 than we do now as the ethanol creeped into our gasoline year around in the last couple of years instead of just the summer months. (my stats may be a little off but you get the gist of it, right?)
oh, yes, Roger, 10.7 is rather low - are you keeping it serviced by the book?Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Re: 10.77 mpg
My commute used to be creep and crawl and my car still got about 17-18 mpg. I'd say something is wrong if your car only got 11 mpg.PK- 2002 Premium Blue/Full Accent/Whisper White Top

I'd fill it and recheck it again. You may get a different number, closer to what it should be.Originally posted by robpopper View PostWhat's happening? Re: 10.77 mpg
how is the car running ? my father-in-law just gave my wife his '05, and it seemed to me to be running poorly.. missing, etc. I took it to the Ford dealer, and they said it was "bad pots", apparently there are 8 of them, one for each cylinder. There was a mfg prob with them ,and Ford replaced them all for me under some sort of a recall program. Runs great now. Mileage on the road (FL to NC), with premium, was 23.

Re: 10.77 mpg
Just after buying my Bird, I found someone on TBN had posted something about ECOMETER from AUTOMETER. This got me real curious, so I got one. A Happy Thank You to the person that found this product!!!!!
I had it ordered from Advanced Auto Parts ($60 something-- can not remember) worth every penny. I installed it on the A pillar up by the visor. It plugs right into the OBD port just below the steering wheel, and the cable supplied reaches easily. The cable is hidden behind the a pillar plastic- nothing shows.
It is nifty! Instant MPG, average MPG, and a tach too. It changed the way Kim drives, she had a real heavy foot --my foot was only a little lighter. I am pleased with it, it reads dierctly from the Ford computer- so all info is pretty reliable. It lets you know when you start drinking gas, instead of just watching the odometer and gas needle.
I just broke 100,000 miles on my Bird and it tells of 19 City MPG and 24.9 Highway MPG- and this is just from my last day trip in the car. It has been installed and giving information for a little over 5,000 miles now.
This may not cure your poor mileage now, but it will hellp monitor any new problems that may develope.
Hope your mileage problem goes away quick and easy.
