    Gomer says "Hey!"

    I'm still a newbie to the wonderful world of T-birding, and am very excited to be here. I love the car and the reactions it gets, thumbs ups, "Nice car" shouted from strangers and folks who stop me at parking lots and ask all kinds of questions. Just like people do when I drive my '56 Oldsmobile or the '56 T-bird. But the funny thing is, when I come across fellow owners of this generation of bird while out driving, and I wave to them, I have yet to get a wave returned let alone a smile or a nod. So what gives? After you have the car for a while you become a snob? I know everybody has lots on their plates these days, but jeeze! Everyone here at the "nest" seems so freindly and fun. I wonder if this happens to others? In the meantime I hope I'm not alone in being freindly out there on the highways and byways. Be brave... wave!

    SOMETIMES YOU ARE RIGHT, I FLASH LIGHTS, BLOW THE HORN AND WAVE, NOTHING IN RETURN. WE NEED A SIGN LIKE MOTORCYCLES AND CORVETTES, THEY ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGE ONE ANOTHER.

        There may be a few that don't care to respond, in my case sometimes I don't notice the wave from the other car in time and he is already past me for me to respond. I know last weekend a guy in a old corvette waved but I didn't see it till he was just about past me. I know my friends have pulled up next to me at a stop light and I didn't notice that they were there till they blew their horn!
        On the water in boats we wave all the time but we generally are moving (especially sailboats) alot slower.

        Keep on trying we are not stuck up, just hard to notice waves sometimes.

          Saw a Yellow BirdThis past weekend getting off I-71 at West 150th.
          I passed and waved the woman passanger waved.

          Ron you should have stayed in Cleveland!

              I'm so surprised to see another Retro Bird it's gone by before I can react. They are far and few between here in Maryland.

                Waving was something we did back int he day when I had my MGA. However, you never waved at a car fom a different class like a Healey or Jag. A few Triumph TR's would wave back, but and MG driver always waved.

                Same thing is still true with motorcycles. Gold Wings wave to each other and rarely get a wave from a Harley. Crotch Rockets rearely try waving to Harleys or Gold Wings.

                I am always surprised that TBirds don't wave back or acknowledge any recognition. Like Ron, I always wave or flash my lights when I see a Retro Bird. Have yet to get a sign back and it's been 9 years.
                Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

                  David and I were out for a Saturday drive to Amish Country, when a couple of young guys pulled up next to us, honked and gave us a thumbs up.

                  There is still hope for fellow TBirders.

                  We were surprised after 9 years, that the car still gets that reaction from people.

                    As far as waving - the last time I did was at a yellow bird in Potomac Yards (VA). Had my top down and was all smiley - - - and she shot me a look that could have peeled wallpaper.

                      AGAIN TODAY IN DOWNTOWN ELIZABETHTON, LIGHTS, HORN, AND WAVING, NOTHING. OLDER COUPLE, OLDER THAN SPENCE, IN A RED 02. AND THE SAD PART, IS CHARLOTTE WAS TWO CARS IN FRONT OF ME IN THE DSB AND SHE WAVED TOO. AGAIN NOTHING.

                        I don't initiate the wave driving either the Galaxie or the retro, but I will respond.

                          Ron, Nothing against CHARLOTTE but just maybe they knew you as well as we do. Could be that's why you didn't get a response.

                            THAT'S EXCATLY WHY I MENTIONED CHARLOTTE WAS IN FRONT. OTHERWISE, I WOULD AGREE, COULD HAVE BEEN ME. I FORGOT TO MENTION, THE CAR WAS FROM NC. HOPE I HAVEN'T HURT IN TARHEEL FEELINGS.
