You CAN get into the trunk...key access behind the seat...If you can't get into the trunk, why not?

Behind the driver's seat is the access keyhole...now you can pop the trunk.

You realy should try your keyhole behind the seat now and then to keep it working well.

i can see where someone who had no idea about the key behind the seat might be worried.. i had the same question when i bought the car new, the dealer told me the battery was in the engine compartment.

I've never had to do it on the Bird, but I have on the Magnum. I think there are 2 pegs in the engine compartment that you use to jumpstart the car. Look for them on the passenger side near the wheel well.

It should not be necessary to jump directly to the battery when they are in the back. Most cars like that have these pins in the engine area.

With all the action that we have had the past few days, a big SNAFU popped up. The Tbird would not start. Turn the key and you get the cllckclickclick. Called AAA. The man came and went straight to the hood. Told him the battery was in the trunk. He said he could jump it under the hood. Opened the hood and he started looking for a little peg like DavidA mentioned above. Could not find it. He said that the Tbird was the first car that had a battery in the trunk that you could not jump under the hood.

We are now sporting a new vented battery. The original one lasted 5 1/2 years.

Wow ! I guess we are lucky. We're still running on the factory original which is now at least 7 1/2 years old. The car was built in Feb 2003.

The original battery in our 2004 was replaced in the first 2500 miles by the original owner. The motorcraft battery in my 02 Grand Marque was replaced in 09 when it was slow one morning but started. I hope the Bird gives me the same signal before it dies. We drive it somewhere 4 or 5 times a week. I hit another live bird on the highway recently but no damage this time. I was afraid to look after what happened on the way home from Choo Choo Thunder but I am wandering now and has nothing to do with batteries so I will just stop.

If you mount a small battery tender in the trunk and plug it in when home--- there is data to show that a lead acid battery can last ten yrs. I have a 1999 Ford 250 Diesel (2 BATTERIES) that are oem! My 04 Bird has same battery tender and also going strong. Bird has many elect items that still drew current when key is off.
