  • Parade Use With Top Down & Passenger?

I have a good friend who's daughter is on the homecoming court for a local high school. She wants to use the Raven Saturday night.

If I remember correctly the speaker panel with the Thunderbird logo will not support much weight from other posts.

Has anyone discovered a solution for this? I hate to tell her no BUT ...

I added pillows on the folded top under the boot on my '05.
It carried my brother, who was the grand marshall for the local Legion's July 4th parade. He's bigger than I am. I did have him remove his shoes to put his feet up on that shelf. It worked well.
I'll bet your daughter is smaller than my brother.
    Good Luck!

I've never done it, but thought I might sometime. I do remember some good discussion from this thread from awhile back:

There may be others ... try using keywords in the search function on the top banner bar.

Probably too close time wise to get a hard tonneau cover. If you're interested, ask Gary Kimmel if his will support weight.
        Another source:
The company in OK says his will work as a parade seat.

          The solution is simple.

          This is the wrong car.

What you need is something from the 1960s. A BIG BOAT ride. An Impala or LTD......... better still a Cadillac or Lincoln.

You could ride the Home-coming queen and 6 of her runners-up on the back of one of these land yachts!

Check with TOM (My T) He has a very good technique for seating parade passengers.

I DO IT ALL THE TIME, I USE PACKING QUILTS FOLDED TO GO BETWEEN THE TOP RAILS. WITH THE BOOT ON, THIS MAKES A GREAT SEAT.

                HI Joe - -

Find my thread from last year. There were a lot of posts that were helpful. I posted how I finally did it, and it was fine. I'll answer any specific questions that you may have.

I may do it again next month for the Veteran's Day parade here and will repreat the process I used last time - -really simple.

Re: Parade Use With Top Down & Passenger?

The engine runs HOT anyway and I believe that is part of the COP failure problem. Running at parade speed for extended periods seems like tempting fate??

Fate is tempted everyday when we get out of bed. Many have done parades and have gotten nothing but smiles.

Re: Parade Use With Top Down & Passenger?

Joe, I have carried two home coming attendants on my car at once with no problems. I cut a piece of 3/8" plywood long enough for two people to sit on, covered it with a towel, and stapled the bottom side of the towel to the plywood. I let the plywood rest on the speaker area and the rear panel just in front of the third brake light. I moved the passenger seat all the way forward and the ladies were able to step in the car behind the seat and rest their feet on the shelf behind the seat. I have used this procedure in several parades and no problems.

Since all my Grandkids have plans for T bird use I appreciate this thread. I will cut plywood that I have, and put proper spacers and supports on bottom and foam and vinyl to match boot on top and use in place of boot for parades. Take a month to design a week to build, another week to re-buid and 2 minutes to install.

Way to many coffee (beer) breaks on this project.
