Though my Moondoggie (Cashmere) has Borlas, the exhaust tips are not (Don Fox removed them and replaced with the originals). The originals have now rusted through, and I must replace. Could someone tell me what size to order (and where)? I have nothing to go by, and have been unable to contact Don as to what happened to the Borla tips he took off.

Re: Borla exhaust tips
The tips Don put on were not the OEM ones for they would not fit. I believe the Borla system for the Thunderbird has 2.25" outside dia. pipe meaning you need a tip that will fit over a 2.25" dia pipe. If you want the Borla tips you can get those from Borla. If you want like what was on the car then it is internet search time for exhaust tips - tons out there.
Maybe someone would be so kind as to take a micrometer and measure the OD of the pipe on a Borla system to be 100% sure it is 2.25". I obviously can not do that any more.
Another option is to go to a local custom muffler shop and see what they have in stock and if you like one of the choices they can cut the old ones off & install the new ones.Lonestar

Re: Borla exhaust tips
I checked with my dial calibers and they measure 2.250.
Here is just one site that carry Borla tips.

Re: Borla exhaust tips
That's something nice about the Borla system that isn't mentioned very often....it has a million mile warranty. Unfortunately, if you alter the sytem at all like changing the tips, the warranty is voided.
Here's a link to purchase Borla tips:

Re: Borla exhaust tips
Thanks, Spence...so, would these fit? I'm not really picky at this point, I just need to replace the rusted out OEM exhaust tips, because they look terrible, and that's what I told Santa I needed this year.Originally posted by Gobird View PostI checked with my dial calibers and they measure 2.250.

Re: Borla exhaust tips
Lonestar - all I know is that Don told me before Moondoggie was shipped in '07 that he drove around with the Borla tips for a week, hated them, and had the original T-Bird tips put back on.Originally posted by Lonestar View PostThe tips Don put on were not the OEM ones for they would not fit.sigpic

Re: Borla exhaust tips
Elle, The orginal tips will not rust, they are stainless steel so what were on yours must have been an aftermarket tip. As for fit, anything that says it will fit a 2.250" pipe should fit. Ray has a link to the Borla site and I think the price was around $69.00 each. They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE

Re: Borla exhaust tips
Elle:
If you really want to make Moondoggie look great think about adding Corsa tips to the car.
My Bronze got those added because I too thought the Borla tips were ugly.
Actually Bill (lonestar) got me interested in them because that is what he had on his Cashmere.
The tips can be purchased from Corsa at a cost of $65 each so they aren't cheap but they are triple chrome plated and won't rust through either. You will have to add a small length of pipe to install them and somewhere on here there is a thread that I posted about that. I will try to find it and re-post it for you.
Here is a pic of the tips.

Re: Borla exhaust tips
Don't be so sure about that, Spence! I haven't changed a thing on Goldilocks since the day I took delivery, and hers will need replacing sometime soon, also! The link I asked you about is for Borla tips from AutoAnything, 62.95, free shipping...and no hassle return if they're not right. Re: Borla exhaust tips
These look like the tips that are on my car and the size is the 3 5/8" x 2.50 outside dia. on the face of them to fit a 2.250 OD pipe.
I think the 4.250 outlet size my hit the bumper.

PS. Ford says the stock exhaust is stainless steel so I thought the tips would be the same. They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE

Re: Borla exhaust tips
One way to find out if they're SS or not is by a magnet. A magnet will not pick up SS. My TBird still has the stock tips and they're welded on, and there is a hanger support also that is welded just behind the exhaust tip. I wanted to change mine but didn't want to have to do any cutting or rewelding. Mine weren't rusted, they just needed to stick out a little farther out from under the bumper. So I found SS extentions that fit perfectly over the stock tips and then drilled a hole through both and put a SS sheet metal screw in to keep them in place. Leroy

Is stainless steel magnetic?
Answer: There are several "types" of stainless steel. The 300 series (which contains nickel) is NOT magnetic. The 400 series (which just contains chromium and no nickel) ARE magneticsigpic

Re: Borla exhaust tips
My tips are rusted also...weirdly tho, I kinda like the look.
I was thinking of having them painted with that stuff you line the beds of trucks with (black speckled with gray). A friend did his *entire* Baby Bronco in it and it looks cool...really cool.
anyways, thought I would try it...the tips are ruined anyways, figured I have nothing to lose.
