    AS I RECALL, IT IS JUST A MOTOR THAT ROTATES AND OPENS AND CLOSES THE CONTACTS ON THREE LAMPS. THERE IS A SET OF WIRES TO EACH LAMP

        SOMETHING STRANGE ABOUT THAT, 1960 THUNDERBIRD DID NOT HAVE SEQUENTIAL TAILLAMPS. ALSO THE 1960 BIRD ONLY HAD TWO TAILLAMPS, THE INNER OR THIRD WAS FOR BACKUP LAMPS.

          I had a neighbor in VA that went all the way to New York and paid $55,000 for his. Some people will pay top dollar to be the first on the block. I was happy to pay sticker in July-02. I could have waited a few years and got it for a lot less, but the fun I would have missed out on is priceless.

            That schematic is for an aftermarket sequential unit and some owners of '64s have also used it. On the '65 bird the sequential unit consisted of a 'flasher' (like a stepping switch as Ron described) that consisted of a motor and three contacts. Also there was a relay that wold switch from side to side in the event of brake use . All this was in a package in the trunk which also contained the brake relay. On the Cougars the brake relay was not part of that package but mounted separately. The nice thing about this old electric technology was that you could repair it if necessary. Have worked on many of them. Also, the signal indicators were mounted on the front fenders instead of the dash instrument cluster. If there was a problem with the sequential lights, the flasher would stay on solid and indicate that there was a problem in the back. Could be a bulb problem or the flasher or relay gone bad. These are almost as much fun as the retractable convertible soft tops when there is a problem.

              If there were a 2010 retro, it probably would be based on a different platform, since both the LS and Jag S were not great sellers.

              Even if retro sales were good, the TBird volume probaly wouldn't have supported that platform by itself.

              Then the question becomes, what Ford platform would the new TBird be based on? (Sounds like history repeating itself.)

              Expanded Fusion? Shrunken Taurus?

              Did Ford greatly expand the dealer allotment for 2003, because every dealer had unsold 2003's on the lot when I started looking.

                No, the allotment for the 2003s was less. The demand for quick sales was even lesser.

                        Wow! I subscribe to "Car and Driver" and read each isssue cover to cover. Don't agree with every opinion they have (too much BMW loving), but I do respect their opinions on a lot of automotive issues. I also subscribe to "Autoweek", "Automobile", "Motor Trend", "Road and Track", "Hemmings Classic Car", "Hemmings Muscle Machines" and "Jaguar World Monthly". I read them all and pass them on to friends except for "Jaguar World Monthly" which I keep in binders that go back to 1997. I throw all this information in the mix when determining what car I will purchase since I tend to keep my autos for such a long time.
                        I remember the purchase of the Lexus SC300 like it was yesterday, and "Car and Driver" and "Automoble" (I think it was on their "10 Best" list for several straight years in the 90s) favorable opinions of that car were a big reason (along with I just loved the design) I bought it. It is one of the best purchases I ever made.

                            I did have a subscription to Keith Martin's magazine, and I really enjoyed it. Since one of the other magazines (I believe it is "Automobile") does include some auction results plus his comments and subscription costs were getting out of hand, I decided to give it up. Also most of the other magazines were offering discounts, and his was one of the most expensive I had. A friend of mine takes it, and every now and then I get to see a copy. I also enjoy seeing his show on the HDTV channel. I believe the show is named "What's My Car Worth?"

                              ...Hi Claude....I agree the mainstream mags. offer deep discounts, but at the end of the day i find myself skimming through them as they write their own stories/takes on the same vehicles from the press motor pool...S.C.M. although a higher cost than the deep discount mag's is well worth it I.M.O. and the cost has been the same for some time....having said that, the mainstream mags are so cheap that I subscribe to them too!....just to compare takes, as I skim through....I am of an age where they would not influence my buying decisions whereas S.C.M. could influence my collector decisions.....This subject is probably not appropriate for this ageing Thunderbird site.....
