  • Tbird production line trivia

Many of you may not know this about your Tbirds:

From March 2001 to end of January 2004, our Thunderbirds were produced on a dedicated line at the Wixom Factory. That meant that no other models were mixed in the line with them when they went thru the factory and paint booth. The line was then closed down as was noted by some who took tours of the factory in the later years. From Feb 2004 to the end of production, the Thunderbird was mixed in various lines with the Lincolns. It was a tell tale sign of the slow down in sales of not only the T-bird but the Lincoln LS and other Lincoln models.

And back at that time in 2001 there was a phone number we got from someone that allowed us to call and find out if our car was heading to the production line. A lot of times before the dealers did.

Sometimes what happened in the 60's should stay in the 60's.

My goof. That was supposed to be in another thread. Time for another dose of my meds no doubt. I was referencing the 1960's recliners.

Mine was produced in mid 2004, and I got a little something extra on my Windshield. I have a blue "made in Wixom" oval sticker. Dot and Harry hadn't seen that before and thought that it was a boobo, they must have been running Lincolns through and stuck a sticker on my Bird. Another thing to remember if I ever have to replace the windshield, that sticker is coming with me.

Would have been interesting if some of the last Birds got a few LS features by accident.

Here's a thread from back in July 2002 where TBN members started talking about ordering and buying their T-Birds:

It was fun on the old board when the member who worked on the assembly line would post and let us know when our car passed his location.

I recall another one besides her that watched for the vin #s from another point in the line. I think he only did it a couple of times.

wonder if different lines made the difference? or maybe it was a particular worker that was on at the time that remembered to put it on?
