    Re: Is this 2012 T-Bird

Not that it matters, I would never be able to afford it, but for the sake of conversation, I'm not taken with the design as it stands. I do like elements of it and would hope that some of the angularity became smoothed out. Somehow, it seems to lose more in transition than it gains in cutting edge design. Then again, I'm a romantic and prefer more rounded flowing shapes -no wise comments here! I suppose that sometimes the future has to hit you between the eyes until it's accepted.

This design has been floating around for a couple years and surfaces from time-to-time on the site. It has all of the design cues of a bankrupt General Motors concept car. There isn't one Thunderbird gene in this design's DNA.

A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

While I think the overall design is too angular and not really cohesive, there is one thing I really like - the retractable hardtop!

If I had to go with this, and I'm not a designer, I would soften it as so:

With all of the negative comments I see about the retro-bird, I still love the design. From the positive comments I get, many non-owners love it as well.

                          Re: Is this 2012 T-Bird

Well as the owner of a Generation I, Retro I too am glad to be able to afford one.

If this is a Generation II Retro then that is fine, it looks like a Mustang to me but the styling cues of the grille and round tail lights certainly strikes a resemblance to the Gen I cars.

I particularly like the retractable hardtop and it was something I wish that Ford had done in our Gen I RetroBirds.

If this is how it comes out fine it will perpetuate the Mark for Thunderbird. These being concept cars and drawings at best they are always more radial and the lines will be soften and some of those design cues would be incorporated into the final design.

When I look back at the early years of our Gen I Retro's there were two camps those that loved at first glance like us and those who absolutely hated it. So I would be willing to look at a Gen II knowing that Ford will make it attractive as they have with all their present line up.

Just my 3 cents worth (inflation & taxes).

Drive it like you stole it !!!

It does have some Viper in it along with some other cars including Camero but nothing really original, and it is not a design that will stand the test of time IMHO. To me there is nothing you can do with this design to straighten it out. That thing is a mess. Maybe the designer could take lessons from Ian Callum.
