Re: Rare F code 312 with blower
Nice, for a purpose built car. But as a fairly high liquidity collectable? I think not. Here's a car for sale and it's purpose overrides everything...not even a mention of mileage, et...ugly a$$ed wheels, etc....... Not for me. Certain collectors will run this one up tho, as John said.....But I will always hope a Boulevard Bird will fall into my lap someday.....sigpic
Invoice $38,457 - Sold new 9/15/2003
One of twenty two built like this
She was a good one. Sold 12/30/2014.
Replaced with 2013 Infiniti G37 Coupe.
A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

Re: Rare F code 312 with blower
Caps and wheels are correct for the 57. Those were the stock, basic hubcaps.
It will bring a lot of money if its vin # starts with a D and the factory invoice says it came with the supercharged engine. The D code "F" birds are the most saught after of supercharged Thunderbirds. If the vin# starts with an F(about 200 of those were made), it will also pull in big bucks but not as much as a "D" supercharged model with invoice
The key to this car being one of the 12 build for the Daytona time period for racing would be the Factory Invoice documention verifying that it does have the supercharged engine and the "D" code and the correct build time.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Re: Rare F code 312 with blower
Invoiced by the factory on January 29, 1957, it was built with radio, heater, clock and lighter deleted and is equipped with the Paxton-supercharged 312 V-8, a manual transmission and safety package.
Sure looks like a "D" code from here. But. I WILL see. I Never pass up the weekend at Mecum down here.DaveR (as seen on survelance TV)

Re: Rare F code 312 with blower
Sounds about right for the D code and built as a race car. They didn't need those extras - added weight.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Close but the F car wins. - by a few tenths of a second :) It is about equal with an E set up though. George enjoyed himself that day years ago.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Maybe if the old car is bone stock configured.Originally posted by Lindy View PostLove it! Also I'd love to see a showdown between an '05 and such a F car on the drag strip. It would be a close one, no?

Not sure I'd call it a "show-down" though.
Nearly 60 years later........ We live in a time now where "quick" is 13-14 second 1/4 miles. This level of performance is quite a bit faster than our Retro-Birds and is performed by so many cars it's hard to keep count. Under 13 second 1/4 miles are the stuff of pedestrian V8 Mustangs and Camaros. something in the 11-12 second 1/4 miles, that up until recently was "race car" only FAST, is the new measure of truly fast street performance.
When the old Bird with technology akin to communication by means of two cans and a string comes up against a new Retro-Bird and it's 4 cam 32 valve fuel injected motor with computer controls .......... and eeks out the win anyway........
Not sure if that's a "show-down".......... as much as it is a "condemnation" of the performance lacking in our cars vs what might have been.
Sure we call 'em cruisers and don't really expect to see "Fast" but why embarrass 'em?
That said I'd love to see that old T-Bird run against an age appropriate 283 Corvette of the same era.
Not holding my breath though. Probably pretty tough finding two owners of these now very expensive cars willing to say, "Who cares what they're worth.......let's race!"

Re: Rare F code 312 with blower
Oh, I don't know about that, take for instance the technology of a tune recorded on LP disc compared to the digital tune played on the i-pod: some would opine that the check goes into the column for the LP disc. Take for another instance, microwave ovens in the 1950's. http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/history.html Today's microwaves are pretty much based upon the same thing. In other words, the technology of the F-code was pretty straight-forward stuff, and perhaps too, ahead of it's time. Thus, I beg to differ. It'd be an awesome showdown! Zero to 60 in six or seven seconds is nothing to be embarrassed about, save for, up until the last couple of years, where the technology curb shot way up, and now there are killer 4-doors.Originally posted by MerlotBlue View PostWhen the old Bird with technology akin to communication by means of two cans and a string comes up against a new Retro-Bird and it's 4 cam 32 valve fuel injected motor with computer controls .......... and eeks out the win anyway........
