  • Transmission Problems??

    Hi Guys,
I am having a problem with my 2002. When I am at a stop and my foot is on the break and the car is in drive the engine runs a little rough. It almost wants to take off a little bit. Then when I am driving between 50 and 60 mph and I give it more gas to get it up to 65 or 70 the car hesitates or jerks until I get to 65 then is runs smooth again. This doesn't happen at lower speeds just at a stop and at 50 mph. Any though as to what this could be? Thanks in advance.

Coil on plugs. Do a search on 'cop's' to learn more.

Cop stands for coil-on-plug. Instead of one coil as in the old days, you have one at each plug. Use the search feature for "cops" and you'll find much more info.

Agreed. Have an 2002 and when it did that it was a COP problem. Get COPs fixed, tranny smooths out.

It is a COPS issue I have exactly the same thing in my 2002. When I took it to Ford the #5 and the #8 coil failing. According to all the kind information I was given you should have all 8 fixed and changed at the same time as they tend to go one by one. Unfortunately our 2002's are NOT covered under the warranty like the rest of they years which is a true thorn in my side! Good luck to you. My dealer wanted $1200 to replace all 8. Found the parts for less than $200 now just looking for a reliable mechanic and waiting to save up the money to have it fixed.

              Good luck to you!

My Ford dealer charged me $900.00 to replace all 8 COPS in mid-2010.
