Thunderbird Quilt

My better half is making an applique quilt for me with outlines of our two Thunderbirds. She has the top done. I just have to show it off.

beautiful - can't wait for the quilters here to see this. I have an Elle original hanging on my wall with tbirds on it. Mary should consider putting a button on the porthole. That's what Elle did on mine.

Vicke she thought of that, and buttons for the tires too. This is no wall hanging though, I will have it on my LazyBoy for the daily retirement naps.

She started with a couple of pictures I found on the web. She traced these, somehow, and put them on some type of iron-on backing, then on the material she chose, then cut them out. That's about as much of the process as I understand. Anyway, I'm glad she re-thought the button idea. It may have looked a bit better but I'm not so sure it would be as comfortable.

John - I used buttons for both the porthole and the tires. Vicki - post a pic if you can!

Actually on closer inspection she did use buttons for the portholes. The buttons she got for the tires were too small so they are appliqued as well. My bad!

She put a border on this morning and is going to work on the backing next, then on to the quilting machine with some batting.

She's working pretty hard at it, and two other quilts she is making for parents of one of the Young Marines who were both deployed this month. One is boots and the other coffee cups. Mary is definately multi-tasking.
