  • After TEXAS THUNDER

After we finish up with TEXAS THUNDER, is anyone else interested in cruising down to Corpus Christi/Padre Island to look around?

It has been over 40 years since I was there and Rosetta has never been. Since we are relatively close and don't know when we will be back, we thought we would go check it out.

David and Jeannie are going to join us and anyone else that would like to do so is invited to join the caravan.

From Corpus we will work our way back home along the coast and through east Texas.

    Let the stories continue ........
    21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

The Judge just said it may be possible for us. Again, I'll get back on this. I do know it is HOT, HOT HOT DOWN THERE.

Yes, it is hot there but there is always a good breeze off the water.

Corpus Christi is nice and there are some good seafood restaurants there, but if you want more of a beach setting I would suggest you look at Port Aransas. You can get a hotel or condo right on the beach and most any other place you stay is only minutes from the beach. And, they have some great seafood restauants. You will need room reservations! Just Google Port Aransas, TX.

Paul, I'm glad to see you Oklahomans appreciate what we have here in Texas. Do you know what happened when a TX A&M student transferred to OU? Raised the IQ of both schools! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Looking forward to seeing you at Texas Thunder.

          Re: After TEXAS THUNDER

          Thanks for the tips, Cliff.

Texas is as much home to me as Oklahoma. We lived in Texas several years of my childhood and always called it home because my parents were born and raised there.

By the way, I lived in Austin in 1963 when they one their first national championship and despite having lived in Oklahoma for almost 40 years my blood is still Burnt Orange - HOOK 'EM HORNS!

I'm as anxious to get back to the Hill Country as anyone and in fact have been pushing for you Texans to step up and have an event there for years. Dot, George and Sally can definitely attest to that. Folks that have never been there are in for a real treat.

          Spence,

Glad to hear Judy and you might be joining us!

We are always happy to welcome a former Texan home, even if they do live in Oklahoma. So, Texas Thunder is really like a home coming for you.

Without Dot, George, and Sally Texas Thunder would never have happened. Their encouragement, experience, and guidance have made it possible for a novice like me to even be involved in this project. Without them I would have been lost.

I think we have put together an exciting event that everyone will enjoy. I wish Texas was not in a drought so we could have things a llittle greener and the wild flowers were blooming better, but we couldn't find a committee member that could control the weather.

If you haven't been in Corpus in 40 years you are in for a shock. As I said before, Corpus is nice but Port A has become the vacation spot of choice. 40 years ago Port A was just a small fishing village, but that has changed, a lot.

            See ya at Texas Thunder!

Paul, I think we are in for this but could use some details, like how many days it will take and how much clothing to bring along.

                Re: After TEXAS THUNDER

Plans are VERY loose at this point. So loose, that we can safely say there are not any.

In general, I'm thinking we'll probably spend a couple of nights (Sunday & Monday) in the Port Aransas/Corpus Christi area to check out the area and visit Padre Island. Nothing says we can't stay longer if we decide we want to. Then we can start working our way back north. Lots of options to do that based on what we want to see. We can work our way up the coast and back up through east Texas.

When we hit I-10 you can head east back to Florida. Others can decide which way they want to make their way back home. David and Jeannie have multiple options.

Anyone interested can certainly join us in this extracurricular adventure. The more, the merrier - when is the next time you'll be down this way?

Those showing interest/planning to go at this point:

                  Re: After TEXAS THUNDER

Well, if you accidentally take a wrong turn somewhere and end up in New Orleans on your way to Florida or Canada give us a call. We almost always have a vacancy at Benischek's on the Bayou.

Is there a senic coastal route from Corpus Christi to Galvestion?

                      Re: After TEXAS THUNDER

Good question, Charlie. Perhaps one of our Texas members can give us some suggestions about that or other ideas for an interesting trip back north.

Roger, you just never know which turn we are liable to take.
