Over the past few months I have had an irritating problem. My "new" brakes squeal. I took the car back and had the pads replaced (twice) and yes this last set were original equipment pads.. Still squeal.Seems to be worse on warmer days although our "hottest" day lateley has been well under 70 degrees. Would appreciate any input. The brakes work fine so not a safety issue. I went through the samething. Turned out that my rotors were glazed. Did they get turned when the pads were replaced? If they are very shiney and
smooth, I would consider replacing them or getting them turned. It will make
a difference. It did for me.

when I had my front brakes done Ford wouldn't turn them had to be replace .Service rep said he didn't want me coming back complaining about noise. Had it all done and no noise.sigpic

WD40 should NOT be used on brake pads and rotors.
Putting sawdust in your engine to "fix" crankshaft knock will also work, but also NOT a good idea.
The "lube" the sell is put on the back of the pad, NOT the pad itself.
I recently had what I thought for sure was a brake squeak on my other car since it only made the noise when stopping...it ended up being suspension related.

Sometimes, pads are put on that have more metallic content. Tehy are harder and have a longer life, but also may squeek more, however, I suspect that if you used the OE, it is most likely the rotors having a slight glaze, and they should be turned. If they have never been turned, I would not accept no for an answer. They should be heavy enough to accept at least one turning!

Install a good Qulity Brake pad, TRUN the rotors There should not be any problem
99% of the time. However, There are times you do everytihng perfict and, still have
a squeek. Answer, If I knew I'ed be worth a million. Check the parts store's they have racks & racks of BRAKE SQUEEK stop. Your, problem May just be the guy
didn't reface the rotors.

Brake squeal is commonly caused by a vibration between the pad and the caliper. It has many causes some of the more common have been noted (harder brake lining like ceramic, glazed rotors, etc.). Turning the rotors must be done when replacing pads but unfortunately most rotors will be beyond their wear limits if you are replacing worn pads. The new rotors the OEM's use are no longer made thick enough to even handle one turning without making them too thin which then can cause rotor over heating and warpage.
My advice (and I am certified mechanic) is to replace the rotors if they were not already replaced with the pads. If the rotors were replaced, then you need to make sure the anti-vibration pads were installed on the brake pads and are still in good shape. As a last resort, the pads can be removed and a brake pad antivibration coating can be sprayed on the BACK side of the pads which should eliminate the vibration and thus the squeal.

Thanks Fordguy- I finally got fed up enough to take my Bird to the good but very expensive ford dealership. It was explained to me that the Motorcraft pads I had installed are not the top quality pads..Not original equip.. My response was-cheaper should not mean squeeling from the outset, it should mean maybe not lasting as long. Anyway, they are looking at my car today. I'll post their findings. Tim
