      Re: C.O.P. deal on Ebay

The eBay posting shows a list of 15 different Ford products that these COPS will fit. On the right side of that list is a "Notes" column. Click on any of the "View" symbols and you get "OBSOLETE".

      What does "OBSOLETE" mean?

I think it means the part number has been superceeded by a newer number. In this case, it probably means the COPS are the old design.

My understanding of "obsolete" is that it is no longer available from the manufactorer at the parts counters and not being produced any more. Only 'aftermarket' would be a possability or places like ebay .

Ford has replaced 7 out of 8 for me and the last time it was one on the same cyl. So I don't know about anyone else but they would have gotten a good argument from me if they wanted to charge me.

I'm not sure about this. I'm very new at this, having only had my Bird for a few weeks so I don't know the finer points of part numbers etc. I'm hoping someone with more experience can enlighten us about that.

                  Larry,
Our TBirds have a bad reputation for the COPS going bad...as do many other Fords that use the same design. Ford has provided an extended warentee (10 yr or 100K miles) for the 03-05 models but not the 02. If you have a COPS go bad on your 03, the replacement is free up to the end of the extended warantee. However, many dealers will not tell you that so be alert if they try to sting you on that issue.
Ford is now installing a revised COP...I am not sure of the part number differences between the old/new. However, a lot of the old design COPS (still new) show up in the aftermarket like eBay. Buyer beware.

A few days ago E'sBird posted that Mark at WeaponX said they were waiting on one last part. Suggested that shipping may start in a few weeks. However, we have heard that before.

                          Paul,
Is there a way to make sure you are geting the revised COP? Do you know Ford partnumbers for old and revised plug?

                            Hope this helps.

The WeaponX is a one time limited production. If you have not put your $100 down to reserve a set, you may want to call WeaponX and see where they stand on available sets.
I am hoping the WeaponX will allow me to forget about the COPS as a potential problem. If COPS go bad at the most inconvenient time like on a trip away from home and everything is closed, it can ruin the whole trip.

My coils and spark plugs arrived today and are the DG-529 2w4z variety and new in packages as described by the seller. They are my insurance policy for future issues.
