    Re: Premium Vs Regular

In NL we only have Euro (regular) and Super/V-power.
Lowest is 93 Oct. Car runs fine on both.

Premium only but then we only drive the car 500 miles annually.

Thats what about 25 gallons annually. What will be do now that Toms last cruise is in November? That attributes to most of our mileage!

        Thanks Ron.
We hardly have a need for 2 cars here let alone taking both Up North.
I will say though that car on M119's "Tunnel of Trees" would be a blast.
When we lived in MI we would take our Vette and the drive around harbor Springs etc. was enhanced by the car.

Tunnel of Trees is absolutely gorgeous in the fall. We made that trip last year with some friends. Top Down all the way and got some great pictures. Continued up to Copper Harbor then over to Drummond Island while we were at it.

WELL IF A CORVETTE WOULD DO THAT, THINK WHAT AN INCA GOLD THUNDERBIRD WOULD DO.

I burn premium. The last thing I need is engine problems caused by me trying to save a 30¢ per gallon.

                    Re: Premium Vs Regular

ALL the Tbird gas door flap stickers say 91+ octane .

The premium pumps, depending on area of country, vary between 90 and 94 Octane for premium. Can't remember where we found the 94 octane - it was a shock and I took a pic of it. and finding 90 octane premium was equally as eye opening. Medium grade seems to be 89 octane. I don't pay attention to the lower grades so no run down on those. I do know owners (more than one) who use the low grade octanes in their t-birds.

The octane ratings may vary by state but I've never found the price to be lower just because a state has a lower premium octane rating.

Ron, it seems that Texas knew we were coming. The prices have been going down this week.

                        Re: Premium Vs Regular

Let me add that I also tried 87 Octane once (!) and immediately experienced the difference in performance. The car had no pick-up. 89 Octane seems to work OK, but for the few miles I put on my 02 each year, the cost of 93 is not an issue.

I see no problem with alternating through the three grades of gasoline. Just be sure to keep the tank more than half full at all times......it helps keep your fuel pump cooled.

Curious, why do you use reg on the trips and then switch to high test when you're not driving too much. Seems to me that if it runs fine on reg why bother switching.

                            Re: Premium Vs Regular

Kind of makes sense. In town driving, it is unlikely that you will floor it for passing. But on highway driving, with 89 octanne, and flooring the pedal, you could damage the engine. That is where 91 octane will provide full power without engine damage. Also, in the mountains, (Colorado), they offer 85 octane. So using 89 there would be OK due to the low octane air in the mountains. In Florida or at sea level is where you need 91 or better.

I always use 91 or better octane.

HKS, that's exactly why I wondered why Roger would use reg on a highway trip and high test for normal driving. Not the other way around as you stated.

I alternate between nid and hi grade as the price fluctuates, but haven't seen any noticeable difference. Yesterday's price here for 93 was .38 higher than reg. that changes weekly. I wouldn't use anything below 89
