Just changed out my 2002 mufflers for a pair of Magnaflows (part #12225) and I also took out the resonators and installed straight pipes. HOW SWEET THE SOUND. Probably gained a few horses. All this for about $400.

Bill:
I did this on my Bronzebird back in 2007 but actually LOST horse power due to the sharp turn we had to make to get the 12225 Magnaflows to fit up into the rear fenderwells. We dynoed the car before and after and lost about 25 horsepower and 15 ft/lbs of torque. Subsequently we changed to Borlas and did gain horsepower and torque and gained over the factory numbers. (there is a thread on this with charts somewhere on this site.)
Anyway, if what you call the resonators are the two small pipes in the center of the car, I hope you did not remove the small cross over pipe between the two. That crossover is critical to back pressure control and without it your valves will be toast in short order.

I'll take a wild guess and say it equalizers the pressure on both sides of the engine exhaust. They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHEREVisit the TBN Store

Re: "How Sweet The Sound"
As the valves open for the exhaust in each cylinder, it creates a pressure pulse in the exaust manifold. Timing between pulses is critical to the desired scavage effect to suck the exhaust from each cylinder to gain desired HP and to provide proper cooling for the valves. If the pulse timing is wrong, the exhaust flow is messed up (engine does not breathe correctly) and you lose horsepower as well as overheat the exhaust valves. The crossover pipe is part of the complex arrangement to coordinate the exhaust pulses. Remove it and the balance is upset.
If you cook the valves and they see your exhaust arrangement, any warantee you may have is not likely to be honoredNever grow up. Enjoy life while you can
