No damage to the car. Just battle scars on the toneau cover. Will probably get this one recovered plus get another original 02 boot.

Glad you made it thru the ordeal. We've been having rather windy weather lately but the top usually stays up; when down, the cover is still in the garage hanging.

Lon, Glad to hear you, Shirley, and the bird are fine. WOW! what a scare and, what were the chances that it would blow back to a point where you could retreave it.

Glad this didn't happen to the TBN member that was doing 120MPH+ at Talledega with the top off - I assume the boot was on. When that thing swung across the windshield, it could have been disaster.

Makes me wonder if we are vulnerable to a similar outcome when we get that heavy wind blast from an 18 wheeler on a 2 lane road. I hate it when that happens.

              Wow, glad you're ok.

This is something that has always scared me would happen (seen it before on other cars)...thats why when i do use the soft boot, i take the velcro strap for rolling it up, and wrap it around the top frame underneath to secure it should something go wrong.

I had ours lift a bit too, but found I did not have it installed correctly. Not to insult you, but was it installed properly? I have found it can take a lot of wind, properly mounted. The sides have to be tucked down as far as you can get, the rear flaps tucked under, and all the snaps snapped. We took ours out today with gusts up to 50 mph and met trucks, but it stayed down without a twitch.

Have had this car for nearly ten years. Yes the boot was installed correctly. As stated in the original post, the rivet on the drivers side nearest to the drivers door broke. The lower portion of the snap was still snapped onto the boot. After returning home, used a small flat blade screwdriver and popped the lower portion of the snap from the boot snap. A portion of the broken rivet was inside the snapped together snaps. The hollow brass rivet in my opinion must of had a defect and after ten years finally gave up.

I'm so glad that you and Shirley are okay following that experience Lon!

As suggested in an earler post, I think that boot cover would look great recovered in Inspiration Yellow.

I have had rivets break on our cover. The thing cannot stay on in gusty weather if the snap breaks.

The snaps are the Achilles heel of the covers!
