Re: What's up with all these Birds for sale?

I am thinking seriously of selling my 03 Red Bird with a little over 16K on it. Not that it has given me trouble but just because I don't want to be put in position to have to make a quick sale due to problems and age.

The Inca has less than 5K on it and of the two it is the keeper.

A car that sits in a garage can often have similar mechanical issues that a high mileage car will have. I counld not imagine having to take an extremely low mileage car in for expensive repairs and still want to keep it. I choose to drive our TBird every day but I also take very good care of it and as a result it looks almost new. I drove in a friend's 2002 Infiniti the other day and he is also very particular about how his car is maintained. That 90k mile car looked brand new!

Re: What's up with all these Birds for sale?

There are items that can actually get worse with non-use (seals, gaskets, belts, etc).

But mechanical items usually need replacement from wear, not from garaging.

Which brings me to a "holy crap" story.

Took my LS in for a check engine light. Turned out to be an MAF.

As part of the "dealer check list", the car's report card came back with "needs emission service" (BullS***) and "brake pads all around plus front rotors and calipers". Car has little under 40,000 miles.

So, I checked my records. Car was in for service at slightly under 36,000 miles. No mention of pads even getting low or any other brake related items.

I asked how could the car go from "brakes fine" to "brakes shot" in less than 4,000 miles.

Got a bunch of blank stares until one rep says "but, that was back in 2010".

My response, "brakes don't wear out parked in the driveway".

        No reaction.

I'm taking the car elsewhere to have the brakes checked, and will probably not use that dealer anymore unless it's something I would only trust a dealer to do.

I meant "stored" in the garage for 4 months. The other 8 months it is in the garage but it is driven occasionally. It has its own stall.
It has never been in the rain and only hand washed.
          Pampered; yes.

Jerry, Is that the same dealer that you switched from Ford to go to? I was just about to do the same thing, but after reading your post, i'm not sure. I guess all the dealers are the same. there great until they screw up , or we feel like were being ripped off. In our area its getting tougher to come up with a dealer most seem happy with.

Re: What's up with all these Birds for sale?

              Charles, the answer is yes.

I will still go back to them rather than the big Paramus FORD/LINCOLN dealer on 17 south, but I have lost some trust. (I'd still trust my car with a Lincoln/LS dealer before a FORD dealer.)

Besides, according to today's local paper (he reads the newspaper??), my dealer may be having longevity issues..

Thanks, I'm having my last oil change at the Ford dealer today and hope to escape with out them finding another two or three hundred dollers worth of work that I need which seems to be a recuring thing even though I have a 16,000 mi. car. I will try the Lincoln dealer for any other word in the future. Thanks,
                Charles

                  - I'm sure most New Sale & now Resale Dealers would agree that the whole 2 Seater deal is the biggest milestone in Selling these, in addition to the Convertible 'thing" - It's a boutique car that only appeals to a teeny niche' market.

                  - It would be nice if Ford could keep just ONE car kinda / sorta like this available at ALL times - I'd a bought a LOADED MK10 / son of Retro Bird - The last Ford GT & the current Stangs & Roush Stangs are in that different Corvette performmance niche' but maybe the Sales decided for them that's the ONLY niche' Market Car worth Selling ?

What would the investment of $3,000 in 1955 be worth today? "compond interest alone" Seems that you can get a '55 driver in the 30 to 40,000 range. Not that much money.
