  • Help Please---Wind Screen

At Texas Thunder I saw two Birds, Red & Silver with Wind Screens.

Attached is a photo of each. Please identify yourself & tell me more about this product.

Are they still available? From what source?
Do they fold down to have the Soft Top up? Is the top bar in view when looking in the rear view mirror? Is that a nuisance? Do you remove it when using the HT?

Would purchase it again or just forget about?

    Thanks

    Re: Help Please---Wind Screen

I have a wind screen from Windblox, that is clear through with no borders and stays on, top up or down or hard top on. have had no problems and keeps enough wind out to satisfy us.

      Hi Mike,

The red one is ours. We like the windscreen. It eliminates most of the wind turbulence, and you can raise and lower the soft top with it installed. It does not have to be lowered. Only issue is that you cannot access anything you put behind it when you have the soft top up. It does not reflect the sun/glare that some have commented is an issue with others.

We learned about it on TBN. Here is a link to the string.

      http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...light=windstop

We found the windscreen on eBay and Donald modify it as indicated in the email string above. We also added black foam around the bottom section so that it would not damage the interior and fit snuggly behind the seats.

If you have any other questions, let us know.

So it is not connected to the car in any way? It is just stuffed down behind the seats?

I actually bought one from Lovethedrive but I found it not satisfactory because I couldn't get the clamps installed without tearing the heavy material of the top containment section..... Lady named Amy there was as nice as she could be and happily refunded my money. She said that as soon as the guy had a chance he had a new idea and would be developing one for the RetroBirds.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to get a working model tho. Note that in Charlene's URL above they talk about having it ready in a few weeks.
        That was three years ago.

I had bought one for my Miata and it worked like a dream. Take out a couple of bolts, replace with brackets and slightly longer bolts.
Even the original install only took a few minutes and after that it was literally less than 60 seconds to remove or install.

I also tried the fiberglass type from Aaron.... and he was just as nice refunding my money. Reflections killed that one.

Unfortunately there are no such fixes for the Bird.

          Thanks, Charlene & Don.
We have off/on thought about a windscreen of some type or another. Can't seem to find them like yours anymore and the plexi ones do not interest us. I could make one out of white sprinkler pipe & left over window screen from a sliding door screen repair. HA! won't that look just so cool

Hi Mike- I also have the Love the Drive wind screen. They sent it to me as a demo. and I find it very functional and looks good too. And totally out of the way when soft top is up. I put mine on when the hard top comes off and is removed when the hard top re-installed in the fall. It really helps with the wife's blowing hair thing.. Always used to be a problem. Now not so much.. I believe Doug Heider has one and lives fairly close to you. Maybe check it out. Hope to see you for the summer cruise on the peninsula.. Later Tim

I also have a Windblox. Satisfied with it. Snaps are 2-sided so you can snap boot on top.

                Re: Help Please---Wind Screen

I don't see why plexi should be such a problem with some members when it clearly is almost invisible. why would you want to see some of the ones posted on site? also we've never had reflection problems, and also see no reason to have it fold, because most of the time you don't know its there. If you want to remove it, four snaps and its off, and the boot can be used at the same time, off or on. I see nothing nice looking about a screen that looks half home made, and much prefer no look at all.

                  Charles,
On your plexi windscreen, does it go down below the shelf or can you access items that may be on the shelf like maybe a small cooler? On the windscreen types I've seen they do offer access. Just wondering about this. I am not criticizing.

Also wondering what or how the plexi ones are held upright instead of tipping either forward or backwards from the wind pressure?

These are the types of questions I have as I try to learn more about the available windscreens out on the market.

                    Re: Help Please---Wind Screen

Mike, there is a tab, for want of a better name that is cut at the bottom of the wind block which does nothing but press up against the front of the shelf ,while built into and attached to the windblock are two straps on each side which are directily across from the snaps for the boot. they snap to those, and there are snaps on top that allow the boot to snap on with no interference. with the top down you just place your cooler over the top and on your shelf. I have a flat top cooler so I am able to put it back there because there is space between the top and the windblock. basicly, what is holding it is the front of the shelf wall, the back of the seats and the straps which are placed in such a way that they snug up every thing. hope this helps. there are pictures on their web site. [info@windblox.com] For me, I just like the no look look without hanging another aftermarket item on my bird, and I think it does a fair job on wind deflection which ,as I find on all I've read is maginal at best. Good luck, Charlie

Here is the website for Love the Drive.

                        http://www.lovethedrive.com/catalog/...002_to_2005/32

It appears that they are selling them now for $265.

The nice thing about this windscreen is that it does not interfere with the storage of items on the "shelf" and that it allows the ability to fold the screen down and out of the way with the soft top either up or down.

Also no glare and no scratching of the material.

It is the one I would get. I already have one of the Wind stop screens that I purchased off of Ebay for $100.
