  • soft top questions

My first question is now the soft top is a little wet in the morning. Is it bad if I put it down for 25 minutes on the way to work and then put it back up?

My second question is do you guys spray or treat your soft tops with anything? I have two little pulls on it and want to make sure it stays in good shape.

    thanks.

The answer is no to both questions.

      Re: soft top questions

I would agree with DavidA's first answer but on the second, putting a protectant on it, it depends on how you use your car and store it. If you don't have a garage, then I'd consider a protectant for the softtop; also, if it's used as a daily driver and out in the sun everyday. Raggtop is the fabric manufacturer's choice (their product) or use another on the market. Just make sure it's specifically for softtops.

        Re: soft top questions

        Greetings,
I keep my Bird in the grarge but I also keep a coat of Ragg Top Protector sprayed on it. If it needs to be spot cleaned I use the Ragg Topp cleaner on the spot to clean. Both do a great job. If the top gets wet the water really beads up with the protector on it. I purchased my Ragg Top in a kit, one of each bottle in the kit.

Yep RaggTopp products are THE best choice. They make products for all soft tops. Be certain you purchase the products made for our Bird's cloth & not the products for the vinyl like material.

Yes, but you would be money ahead if you purchase this

Because down the road you will be using the cleaner too.

                  Re: soft top questions

Josh, get the Raggtopp ... thats what the top manufacturer used when the car was built.. BUT, before you put the protectrant on, cover all the glass, unlatch the top and put paper between the windshield and the top, and paper over the paint. It is a job to remove the stuff from any surface that you put it on.... and paper over the rear window behind the material .... ie put the paper in while the top is unlatched to cover the rear window. Good luck .. it's worth the effort

FEsTbird is garaged except when I am driving it. Even though I am a daily driver, about 6500 miles per year. I have not treated the top and wash it about every other time I wash the car using Macguiars Gold. I vacuum it every time I wash the car. It is rarely in the sun very long (% of summer). Our local convertible (repair) shop recommended Raggtop products for conditioning.

In answer to the first question, I would not put the top down wet, especially if it is cool.

                          Re: soft top questions

I have. It worked fine. Water beaded up real well. Lasted for a year. I can't compare it to Ragg-top as I have never used that product. I purchased it at a marine supply store, along with 303 cleaner and a 303 uv protectant for the plastic headlamp lenses. I'm satisfied with all of them.

I've always used Rain X Spray on top & it looks new - Easier because the overspray is OK on the Glass - Beads water up on the Top just like it does the Glass.

Never heard of anyone ever using this on their soft top.
