  • Just installed the EZtop hoist. -- QUESTION

I got this from Sixpac last week and just finished installing it. It was quite easy and took me about 2 hours. Now a questions ---

It states in the instructions " NOT TO BE USED FOR LONG TERM STORAGE"

    1 - WHY?

2 - How long is "Long Term"?

David, we would use it all summer long.

One day before it fails? Probably a disclaimer to avoid lawsuits.

It won't fail. Best hoist on the market back then.

Does the design put pressure on the rubber gasket in a fairly small area? If so, long term compression might cause the gasket to deform and keep the hard top from sealing to the car body well which could result in a leak into the cabin.

That would be the main reason I see for not using it long term, otherwise who knows.

If the hoist is positioned right when lifting the top, the arms will not touch the rubber gaskets. No harm done.

Nothing touches the rubber gaskets. It's really a very good design. Frankly, I don't see why the top can't stay up there for long long times.

Could it be the top could deform in long term storage?

The top will stay up there as long as you want. The lift sold to us T-Bird owners is the very same one sold to people who use it to lift & store their pick up truck bed caps. The only difference is the length of the arms, everything else on the lift is the same. Most pick up bed caps are heavier than our HTs.

I don't see where there ever would be a problem.

Rosebud: I don't see how that is possible. The top is very sturdy and does not flex in the slightest. I think it may just be a legal issue.

Most likely a legal issue since the company does not install the hardware on your ceiling.

David, Don'tworryboutit. Mine has been on the same kind of lift for as long as a year at a time with no problems.

Dave, mine is the same brand and you know how much my top is off. When it is not on the car, it is on the lift.
I do not see any problems with storing on the lift.
