Hi everyone still trying to learn the ropes here in the nest. I have a 2002 Tbird in the Thunderbird Blue color. I'm thinking about having the car painted in the 1959 Indian Turquoise color. Then taking it on Route 66 in the fall. any comments would be appreciated

Re: just joined the Nest plan on driving Route 66
David, A couple years ago we drove 66 from Chicago down to Tulsa to a TBN event. A group of us did it and took about 3 days to do it taking our time. You can't stay on the original 66 the whole time but some of the highways you have to take parallel 66. It was a nice drive with lots to see along the way. I did get a piece of 66 where it isn't used anymore and some day I'll put it is a shadow box for hanging. They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE

Re: just joined the Nest plan on driving Route 66
David,
I took a short run on RT66 shortly after I got my bird also. Made my run last summer....mainly in Oklahoma. Read about it at http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...highlight=rt66
As Spence noted, the old RT66 can be hard to find and is totally gone is some places. However, with some research, you can still find a lot of the really old original road as I discuss in my thread.Never grow up. Enjoy life while you can

Re: just joined the Nest plan on driving Route 66
We did Route 66 about 9 years ago along with a good size group of T-Birds from Chicago to L.A. Of course some of 66 is no longer connected but it was worth the effort to drive as much of it as we could.
It was allot of fun in a group, everyone having walkie talkies in each car to communicate. We took about about week or more to get to LA with lots of interesting stops. Spent a week in Costa Mesa, Calif. then travelled on our own up the costal highway up to Napa Valley and back to Chicago via Salt Lake on I-80 taking our time.
Would do it again in a heartbeat (and I don't mean a Chevy).

Drive it like you stole it !!!
