  • Preserving rubber parts

I just used the Ragg Top kit you guys recommended and it works great. I was looking at all my rubber seals etc; and they are still pretty good while my older Fords not so much. What is a good cleaner and protectant for the rubber seals and trim. I know silicone is a good rubber lubricant but I am a little affraid of it on this type of use next to paint etc; In Fl U/V protection is critical, but don't think Panama Jacks is the answer here.

Ron, All I can tell you is that I use spray silicone once a year on all rubber seals. I spray it on and then wipe off excess. Been doing this for 9 years now and everything still looks good.

I really like Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant. It isn't greasy and it cleans, shines and protects. It leaves the rubbler supple with a natural, like new appearance. I have used it for nearly ten years, since purchasing my car, and my rubber still appears showroom fresh . I also use it on the dash and other vinyl parts with similar results. I think it is superior to silicone, because it does not attract dirt. Moreover, it provides great UV protection.

Thanks for the info'. Most I am not familiar with, but in the case of McGuires I have had very mixed results with their stuff. In several instances their advertising far exceeds the products quality. Back in the seventies a friend annd I both bought new Ford trucks. He used Armoral regularly on his dash and I did nothing. In 5 years his was hard and cracked and mine like new. I have been gun shy ever since.

Ron, polymer technology has advanced by leaps and bounds since the seventies. I don't use all of Meguiar's products, but I do like their protectant over Armoral. It imparts a natural appearance. I don't like that artificial shiny look you get with some protectants. I've used it consistently on my daily driver, a 2000 Mustang GT, for eleven years and the interior is still fresh and clean with no cracking.

McGuires protectant products appear to be ok but theur cleanning stuff is a joke, especially the rire foam.
