...some of us just tend to think outside of the box, which usually requires a conceptual crossover.

I tried, but I can't see a relationship between 60's wagons and the Flex.

IMHO, wagons, especially in the late 50's (Merc, Olds, Buick 4 dr hardtop wagons, Chev Nomads, Ford Country Squires, etc), were very stylish looking vehicles.

60's wagons were also pretty good looking. At least from the B pillar forward, they looked like their sedan counterparts.

But, the Flex reminds more of a what a 2011 Ford Bronco would have looked like.

However, the Flex appears to be a very practical people and cargo hauler, and, if I had the need for that type of vehicle, I'd give it a whirl.

I love the styling of the Ford Flex. To me it looks like bulkier version of the classic American station wagons from the 1960s than ANY Thunderbird. In the two color combinations, the Flex looks even better! That is another thing I miss about cars from the 1960s and 70s-contrasting color combinations with different color tops from the body.

    I owned a 58.

    I wouldn't own a Flex.

    No comparison.

It's not just you. I've driven a Flex and we used to own a '59 Bird...apples and oranges to me.

Is it just me? I can't see any relationship between the Flex and the square birds. The square birds were beautiful.

As I already mentioned, Ford virtually has the "square bird" in the Flex, which was dubbed "Fairlane" in its concept proto-type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fa...)#2005_concept); which makes a historic link to the proto-type "baby-birds;" (you know...the one's with the Fairlane trim). The brass at Ford likely recognized the market-demand for the SUV as the new status symbol. Even Lincoln and Cadillac have already recognized and answered this consumer demand in the production of their SUV renditions.

I for one, love our new Thunderbirds, and how that Ford had the guts to go full circle with the T-Bird. They compare pretty well to the 2002-05 Corvettes, depite their smaller Jaguar aluminum block engines, which by the way, pack a pretty good punch, I would opine.

COP problems once in a while, A/C problems a couple years ago, buying repair insurance just in case.... But, just the same, I lovvvvve my Tbird!

One idea that needs to be addressed here is not where the Thunderbird's future lies, but those who have taken it upon themselves to keep the memory of the Thunderbird alive.
Regardless of what generation we've chosen to preserve and hold dear to our hearts, we are indebted to those who have taken the time and spent the money to make that generation of Thunderbird last in the minds of all of us who remember the car as an idea, brought to fruition, and expanded through the years. Congratulations to you all.

I agree, Ray - in a short couple of years, I will be in the market for a new vehicle, and would love to see the names "Continental" or "Eldorado" reappear - they would definitely get my attention, and more importantly my business.

    I agree, Bruce...it's just a refashioned Taurus!

Lincoln also did a retro version of their classic 1961-69 Lincoln Continental several years ago that was beautiful. The current lincoln sedan (whatever it is called) has a nice interior w/a plane jane exterior. What a waste.

I like most of the retros that have been made by various manufacturers, except for the Camaro. A few years ago, Ford did a 49 concept car that never got produced.

I would love to see a retro of the 61-63 bird, or to own one of the originals.
