I agree with Sally - "Minimal" damage? Looks totalled to me from the pic from the rear. Bet the frame is beyond help.

David, I looked at that damage photo and you might be right, that rear wheel looks like it might be an 05 wheel unless it sustained some damage too, causing that white ring reflection.

As far as I know, there were only 2 in the whole Houston metroplex area.

OH, NO, THAT IS A 2005 WHEEL AND THAT REAR PICTURE IS TOO LIGHT TO BE AN IY.

Marty, didn't see this on the local news so you saved me a chair and TV. Do you know if was on the line that runs near Washington in the Heights? Sure looks like Heights Blvd N. of I-10 from the pic.

I have to agree with Ron, it does appear to be an IG.

OK - unibody, but regardless, I bet it shows up on Joe's "list" as salvage title.

Considering a train strike, it did really well.

It would be interesting to hear the other half of this story. I remember reading that the driver was seen walking a short distance away. The railroad barricade was down. Could this be a jealous wife or friend that left the car on the tracks to get even?

                        Re: Thunderbird in Houston

If the car was only pushed a distance of thirty feet that train was barely moving when
contact was made. Train car collision what you see is minimal damage.

I'm in Texas and the first thing I did was remove the front plate/mount and holes filled in. That was 6 years ago and it passes inspection every year since.

                            Re: Thunderbird in Houston

I posted this in '08. I have seen a plate holder designed by another member who's name is Marty, (owns a Cashmere) who lives in Houston, and both work. Sorry Marty, not recalling you TBN member name. Marty must be an engineer because his bracket reached way back and was really clean. Our variation of dbsupercrews is clean but not as much as Marty's.

I'm not putting holes in the car but I will comply with this law in Texas.

For $8 we have piece of mind and it can be removed in less than 5 minutes.

I'm willing to post pics if anyone is interested.

There is no need to put holes in your car. If you look under the bumper you see two screws holding the bumper to the plastic engine skid plate. Just remove those, place the bracket under the car aligned with those holes, and replace the screws to secure the bracket.
I chatted with dbsupercrew earlier this week. The only change he has made is to place a small rubber self adhesive button to the back of the plate to keep it from rubbing the nose of the bumper. I purchased all the material at Home Depot and it cost less than $8.00 and about 1.5 hours to fab. I used a hand drill, two different size bits, and a hacksaw. I used one bit to make the holes for the screws and the other to counter sink the head of the screw.

You can tell that by the image on the left of the plate. There should also be the name of the organization across the bottom of the plate. When I enlarge the image, the plate becomes too grainy to tell what the image is or to read the small print.
