Re: Who designed the retro bird?
While J Mays was the Vice President of Design for Ford when much the Thunderbird project was going on, it actually began under Jack Telnack before he retired and Mays took over.
While these two were the over-all bosses of the design teams at Ford, Doug Gaffka was appointed to lead the design team for the Thunderbird.21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

Re: Who designed the retro bird?
As Paul said, it was a team effort with Doug as lead designer, in the design with Mays giving the final oks on it and suggestions on changes. A good study of the design process is catalogued in the book by Mike Mueller, 2002 Thunderbird, worth reading.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64
