    Hey Cecil,

First let me clarify my typo, it's a K & N brand filter which I installed on my '05. To be honest, I've only logged a few hundred miles on it as of yet. So haven't had to do any such oil maintenance. I've heard that over-oiling could cause the MAF (massive air-flow sensor on the intake) to fail. However, your local auto-supply store likely carries a MAF cleaner, which comes in an aerasol can. On the 03-05, the MAF is a proverbial piece-of-cake to get at, because it can be removed externally and sprayed lightly with cleaner. But do not touch the MAF, cause oily finger-prints would also hinder the MAF from doing its job. Oh yeah, not so sure that the intake sound is that much louder, but it sure sounds more aggresive on my '05 than does my stock '02. Keep in mind, that the 03-05 have the revamped intake plenum!

I installed a K&N CAI a week ago. It is not that difficult. Took me about 2 hours or so.
Of course, for me, it was do two steps, take a break, do two steps, take a break. Some of the steps take some study to figure out what they are trying to tell you. It's just a matter of taking your time and working through the instructions.

So you are saying it is like doing the two step?

Both my birds have K&N CAIs. It took me long to remove the OEM air box than to install the K&Ns. I have not had a bit of trouble with them.

              I've had a K & N for probably 50,000 miles on my 2002. Maintenance is not
an issue, as long as you don't saturate the filter. It takes a LIGHT coat
of oil, and be sure it has time to settle in before you re install it. I spray the
cleaner on, rinse it with a LOW PRESSURE water stream, and let it sit
overnite on the work bench, then apply a LIGHT coat of Oil.

Remember LIGHT Coat of Oil. LOW PRESSURE Hose.

I clean and oil mine every 8-10000 miles and it still looks and performs
              great.

              You'll like it.

I put the K&N CAI on mine, it is much less restrictive than that crap stock air intake system with several feet of plumbing- its just a short pipe with one gentle curve, plus it sounds really nice when you step on the gas, a real nice rumble, and I think it gives a little more power. I installed it in 1:45 min and I am not a mechanic, it's very easy but you need a few tools. Just do it!!

Over oiled the MAF on my 99 4runner.
Engine light came on, kicked up a code.
Dealer said i should replace MAF, couldn't be cleaned.
                  BS!!
You can clean it with carb cleaner.
                  Be careful.

Last night I purchased one from thunderbird concepts. The TBC brand CAI. I have kept very close watch on my MPG so I will post any differences.

They fell out of the OEM system when I removed it. I assumed it was Ford Engineering's answer to self adjusting air flow.
