The rattle is because the top is loose due to the wimpy weather stripping from Ford. Some say putting the SS trim on helps? The Ford stripping is about 3/8" and is a hollow rubber tube. I removed the Ford weather stripping and put on a larger diameter solid stripping and my top fits tight. Leroy
Just came back from a nice little cruise after taking the HT off and putting the top down. It is 70 and sunny here in northern NJ. This is the earliest by about a month that I have removed the hardtop. We had no winter in NJ here. Went from fall to spring. It has been warm here for the last two months I didn't have to fire up the snow blower or even pick up a snow shovel this winter. Heck I didn't even have to wear gloves all season. What a difference from last year. This time last year it was still in the forties with snow on the ground. It was such a pleasure to be out cruising with the top down, THE BOSS on the CD. Today I said to myself, " It's great to be alive." The Bird is just two different cars with HT on and off.
Just read the Spring has sprung thread. Maybe this can be moved there.

Leroy, I installed "free cell" weatherstriping and still had a rattle every now and then. Not terrible, but slightly annoying.
Try tapping the package tray where it meets the seat. It's not secured down. When the car hits a bump, the tray MAY be causing my rattle.
Anyway, I'm not going to put the top back on to see if that's the cause of my rattle. With any luck, I'll remember to check it out next fall.
Fat chance.
