Re: Inca Gold Spotted in the Florida Keys May 2012

Forgot to mention one very important thing; how to pronounce the name of our village - Islamorada.
Locals 'may' overlook the faux pas, but it will brand you "tourist" if you pronouce it, "IZ-la-mor-AH-da". You'll get much more respect (and better service) if you say it correctly: EYE-la-mo-RAH-da. Sorry, but it's one of my pet peeves. You wouldn't believe how many people make that mistake. After all, you wouldn't say, "izland" for island, would you?

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread but this morning I saw a 007 with the white hardtop and "are you ready for this?" EYELASHES! Yeah they were about 4 inches long and surrounded the tops of the headlights, do you think it was a woman driving it? Duh.

We took the drive last year and Elle's advice about "the road less travelled". Nice drive, beautiful scenery and good food along the way. The only problem we encountered was the truck traffic south (west) of Key Largo. I should have known deleveries would be made to everywhere on Monday! Still, a real nice drive.

Especially if you're on Duval St. in KW.

I forgot to mention the school buses, too. Pretty much stop-n-go from 3:00-5:00 PM, weekdays. There's only one road, and everybody's on it!

You are going in MAY ??
Wow!! That does not give me much time to arrange a parade to accompany you out of Baldwin Park. You do realize that this is a MAJOR event - - - getting that queen out on the road, AND for such a LONG trip. She will be disoriented for weeks.

All the best to you. I am SO happy that you are doing this. Your bird will love it!!

P.S. I will be even more happy if you get a check off to St. Jude's Hospital before you leave. Liz can do it, if you are too busy getting the bird ready.

How are the bugs or love bugs towards the end of May?
My neighbor says it can be worse in the Keys than here in Orlando.
I told him if he hears crying from the Keys it might be me. This car has never even seen rain!

Not sure what going to the movies or a Broadway show has to do with the keys, but maybe you should take it to a drive-in occasionally....

There are ALWAYS bugs in the Keys. Time of year has nothing to do with it. The 'love bugs' of which you speak are primarily mainland critters, but bear in mind, you'll be in the islands...wetlands, mangrove swamps, etc. Be sure to bring mosquito repellant! Might want to purchase a car bra if you don't want to be constantly cleaning off bug guts. As for rain, you will surely get wet! Pop-up afternoon thunder showers are the norm!

While watching the History Channel today they interview a few people from Key West. That area is known as a place that is a drinking area with a fishing problem.

Keith take a couple of Bounce fabric softners, wet them and rub gently and the bugs come right off .Been doing it for a couple of years always have them when we made a trip north or to the west coast.

last january I was driving to Key West and passing through Key Largo, I saw an Inca Gold in someones yard for sale. The whole time in Key West I thought about the car and said if it was still there when I drove back I would try to buy it. I did and the best thing I have purchased in a long time. Enjoy the trip. I have not been back down there since may be be an overdue trip. Next thing I want is a Vespa, maybe I will get lucky again.

Just for clarification, make sure they are used fabric softener sheets.
