    Re: Probably Selling My '02 - 5424 Miles - T/Bird Blue

I began following this thread just to see if it would have a happy ending. I’m sure it did for Roger and I’m happy for him, but I wouldn’t want to give up mine.

I purchased my ’05 as they closed the model out in ’06 and before I retired in ‘07. I bought it to drive and be seen. I love the car and I love driving it. I have made a few tweaks to make it “My T-Bird”, including the Gary Kimmel tonneau and the cold air intake - two wow factors that can raise my spirits on a down day! The tonneau is a great attention getter and really changes the looks of the Bird. I also love the cold air intake’s sound and response when I push down on the gas peddle.

My T-Bird has taken me to Lake Erie, the Gulf of Mexico, and points in between without a problem. However, this past year the plug coils have started to fail one at a time; five have been replaced and the Check Engine Light came on for number six today – two more to go!

I have a ’56 T-Bird which I enjoy, but it doesn’t provide the pleasure of the ’05. BTW, if you haven’t heard the song “Thunderbird” by John Hiatt, check it out on the Master of Disaster CD – however, the sample on Amazon doesn’t provide enough of the song.

The last Bird produced was in July 2005...there was no close-out in 2006.

How much is a tail light now? Handwriting is on the wall. Drive it or sell it.
Wow, I thought I was the jinx! Like JustJon, I have come over to T-Birds from the Cadillac Allante site after seven years and see many similarites. An aging base and concerned over parts. Allantes have two businesses that worked full time to repair, and salvage parts and reproduce parts to support the 21430 7 year production. I'd be surprised with 68,000+ made that the samething doesn't happen to our Birds.

The Allantenet site was a wonderful place to meet over morning coffee and I've met and broken bread with many Allante nuts. Seems the same here and this newbie is looking forward to meeting up with many.

Am currently parting out my beloved '93 (anybody want a door?) and hope I never see the day with the bird! Allantes always had parts on the shelf and that's why I asked the question how we find out the particulars on those cars in the broken birds thread. The other Ohio newbie and I are planning on a road trip to the junk yard as our first joint outing.

Drive 'em and enjoy the h-outta them!

Whew! You just about did the wrong thing Roger. Glad you changed your mind. We have an 02 with about 12K miles and have spent very little on it over the past 7 years. Parts will still be around for some time yet, and there may be a few in the salvage yards for parts. Think about folks restoring a 49 ford or even a 56 crown vic, how do they manage to get parts? You should be ok for a long time and think of all the folks that only wish they were driving a retrobird.
            Cheers,
            Jim

              Re: Probably Selling My '02 - 5424 Miles - T/Bird Blue

Hi there! I am new around here and joined after reading this particular post.
I am the very pround owner of a 2005 50th anniversary TBird. She has won 1st place in car shows and is my daily driver. I could have bought any other "New" car, but the specs on her won me over. True she is not a cheap maintenance queen, but now days all the cars out there drop dead after 100,000. I have the bills to prove it. 2 F150's (husband & son's)and a Chevy Impala LS with the cop engine(daughter's) :-) Enjoy your cars. I think we all got them because they are so much fun. Right?
BTW. Don't worry to much about the younger kids not appreciateting our older rides. We also own 2 1967 Barracudas (Fastback & Convertible). The convertible was bought for our then 16 year old daughter (now 18). She is top 10% in her graduating class and a bit of a car enthusiast. Right along with all of her friends and brother. Andrea has worked on her Super 225 slant six and won numerous 1st & 2nd place trophies with her car. In all, we have several 100s young ones hooked on taking care and restoring the classics. All is not lost with our kids. You should all see the stars in there eyes when we take them for rides. Especially when I go visit Military Bases. It's a good way to spread hope, happiness and teach them that Classics (My T-Bird included) are way better.
