Not enough missing, Ron. Dates might make a difference because there was a line change during the 04 production but yours were bought used, right?

All bought used, all but one were from the original owners. No spares have been on the ground.

Just looked at my 03 tire well. No cap to protect the cover. The stud is starting to wear a hole in the cover. I checked the spare when another thread talked about spares going bad. I think they were Firestone. Lucky I don't have that brand but the air pressure was REAL low. So I boosted it back up. I think I was the first person to ever take it out of the car. SO... I think Ill be making a protective cap to cover that tire bolt. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I think more importantly we all should be concerned about what happened to John's battery and the damage it did. I assumed the whole idea of a vented battery was to prevent anything like this happening. Maybe we should all rethink our choice of replacement batteries from now on, there are other options but they're not cheap. Leroy

My 04 was built 4/28/04, tomarrow she'll be 8 years old. No cap at all on mine. Does anyone have a suggestion on something simple that's easilly available to put on it to prevent any damage? I wonder if since there are so many missing if they were left off at the factory. I'm pretty sure my spare has never been out of the trunk. Leroy

Well Dot went to check for you and found this going on!






So $152.00 later for charging system check and new battery and all is well.
The spare will need repaint but trunk is ok.
Oh and yeah mine is round!

Clean the well with a baking soda solution.

glad this subject was opened as it prompted me to check mine and found the cap missing and rod was eating a hole in the cover. although i purchased this car used the spare tire has never been on the ground so dont know if car came with missing cap.problem was easy solve some shoe goo and a small piece of galv steel glued to bottom of cover

Mine is Cashmere - number 607 and build date of Feb 21, 2005

The plastic knob is round BUT while looking I noticed that my spare was a little soft when I leaned into the trunk. Only 28 pounds - OPPS - Thanks Dot, spare is back up to 55 pounds and hard.
