Vintage Merlot is now a member of the 100,000 mile club. Somewhat unbelievable is that we are still with original brakes and long time (22 years) shop says we're fine. Will probably look into replacement in the next few months.

                    • I'm working my way around the new format, so I'm sure I'm posting this in the wrong place and the wrong way, but I haven't yet figured out how too start a thread.

I'm looking to buy another Bird and while I haven't had one with more that 60 thousand plus miles, I'm finding there are many many of them in all colors and years with everything from a few hundred miles to over 100000.

I notice I've had a "mind set" about it, so I thought I'd ask the experts (owners) of the "high miles" cars for the pros and cons, do's and don'ts, things to watch for etc.

Are there things I'm going to have to replace, regardless, like struts, transmission because of miles or are there cars that due to care and maintenance that just keep on ticking regardless of what the odometer says?

I mention the transmission because I understand it's a "sealed" transmission and supposedly "lifetime" fluid. My transmission shop says "ya, but change it at 50000 anyway and you can expect needing repair or replace at around 110000. Of course, what would I expect a transmission guy to say? He says they are different than an engine that can go hundreds of thousands of miles if well maintained but trannys "wear out"?

I'm eager to hear your input

Bill, I think your A/C compressor broke a record too. Mine went out at 95,000 miles but all I ever use in Charleston 10 months a year is Air Conditioning. In November and December is when the top goes down!
