Thanks for posting that link Beau.

I've spoken to them. They do offer a custom-fit pattern for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird, however it does NOT match the factory leather material or color(s).

OK, I just installed the wooden beads. They don't even look bad (they're black). I'll keep you posted whether they keep me cooler or not.

Some folks might want a custom, not a reproduction interior.

John I get a lot of compliments... plus a few months ago I was at the mexican mercado and they had the steering wheel cover and seat belt pads in exactly the same print!

Has anyone used leatherseats.com? - while I am usually a purist, I have visions of a silver bird with bright red seats, shift know and steering wheel leather black mats with red edging. Still boggles my mind they didn't offer the red/black interior with the silver.

I don't see the Tbird Blue seat inserts being offered.

                          Re: Seat Covers

I've spoken with the people at Leather Seats at length about the possibility of making OEM seat cover replacements for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. They also sent me a set of leather samples in various colors.

Unfortunately, none of the colors match the Retro accent insert colors, and the type of leather available from them does not match the leather used on either the 2002 or the 2003-2005.

So if you're looking for an OEM type replacement, you wont find it at Leather Seats. If you want new custom seat covers, their pattern is made from an original seat, so it will be a nice fit. But given the preference of many Retro owners to keep their cars stock, custom seat covers from this company are non-original and expensive.

                            Re: Seat Covers

As I said, I am usually a purist but I may do something like put red seats in a silver car. I would keep the original black skins if I ever wanted to put it back. I have found compared to what I am used to collecting Thunderbirds are a dime a dozen so I am not going to feel overly guilty if I would do this - plus it could be undone. Now what's really hard to undo is all these stainless stick-on/add-on parts without damaging the paint that you see slathered on so many of the ones for sale. I will more than likely go the route of having my upholsterer make the seats covers in the original style. I still think it was such a mistake for Ford to not do the black/red interior. That is another option as well, to have my guy do the black/red theme inside.

Keeping the original covers would be ideal, but am I not correct in assuming that most custom upholsterers take the various panels apart to make an accurate template/pattern?

                                Re: Seat Covers

Probably less expensive to get a set from Leather Seats (as long as you don't mind that they won't match OEM). They make theirs from a pattern taken from a Retro, so the fit looks factory, even if the leather grain and colors aren't an exact match. Any good upholstery shop could probably do the same, but I'm sure it would cost more than buying from a company that already has the correct pattern and has made a set (or more).

And Keith, you could have your interior redone in all red like the 1999 concept, but it won't be inexpensive. Would look pretty neat though.
