  • Two Way Radios

For those that might need some radios for TBN events and caravans, you might want to check out Toys R Us before Thanksgiving Day. Between now and then they have all of their Cobra brand radios for 40% off. The ones they have in the stores regularly run from $29.99 to $49.99 depending on range and other bells and whistles they have.

Cobra is a good brand so I don't think you can go wrong.

    Re: Two Way Radios

I miss the old C B radio days. I assume these are the hand held walkie-talkie type/ I have a pair and they are great for cars traveling together. I have often wondered if truckers still use C B's. The inter-states used to be a great entertainment.

Not tryin' to be a smarty here, but from your post I would say that you do not get out much. Interstate and major hwy truck stops have all kinds of CB items for sale. The CB radio is still a craze.

We have a portable CB we always carry set on channel 19. When the traffic stops, you can always find out from truckers what the problem is up ahead and what lane to get in if one is blocked. Would not leave home without it.

Since many folks are planning to attend events over the next few months and probably participate in caravans to and from them, one item you'll need is a good FRS 2-way radio to make communication easier for everyone.

FYI, my local Walmart and I would assume yours as well currently have several models of Cobra radios on sale at really nice prices. You can check them out in this picture:

Since some were having difficulty hearing me in the caravans during Thunder On The Prairie, I decided to buy a new set. Everyone knows that I'm all about a bargain, so I thought I'd pass this one on.

Each event picks it's own channel and all attending the event would be advised of the channel for the event.

We have Motorola rechargeable ones at work. Will work a couple days on a charge if we don't use them much. Signal goes out 1/4 to 1/2 mile with good quality.

When we did our Grand Canyon trip recently, about 4 of the 7 cars had these radios since a couple of our members brought them. We tried using them but didn't really have very good results. Personally, I had a hard time hearing with them and the seatcover next to me is a little "technically challenged".

Fortunately, I had all the cell numbers of our participants so when I needed to communicate something, I would just send out a group text. I think we had pretty decent cell service everywhere except on a stretch of Route 66 between Kingman and Seligman.

The 23 mile ones that are on sale for $18.27 have virtually identical specs:

The 23 mile ones are what I bought. The 32 mile ones are bigger than I like and the 16 mile ones are basically like the ones I already had.

They are on sale as well, but only a few left online:

Bottom line - Walmart has some good deals on these right now.
