  • Need Some Help Is this Coolant??

Found this gold yellow spot on garage floor. It is located just behind, towards the rear, of front wheel driver's side and about 12-14 inches in under the engine. It is thin but slippery. When wiped up with a paper towel, what is absorbed on the towel the color goes away in a day or so and what is left on the towel is a clear stain that feels a little oilly. There is no smell. If left on the garage floor it does not evaporate, it remains until wiped up.

    Is it coolant? Any ideas?

    Mike

    Yup

Look around and under the heater air bleed (circled) and the degas bottle (upper right).
You may need to put your baby up on a lift but start at the top and work your way down.

Thanks Gar. I knew that if there was anyone who would know it would be you. If I can't see where it is coming from I'll going in for service.

Does ot match what is in your overflo bottle. Most likely is coolant, and most likely one of two things. A hose or water pump seal. Hope for hose.

My money is on the Degas bottle.. If that is where the leak is,do yourself a favor and go with FOMOCO replacement and not the cheaper Dorman brand bottle.

Had the same problem and it was the Degas bottle. Keep an eye on the bottle and you will see a decrease in fluid, but slowly. Mine did not leak a lot at one time, but it did get worse with time. It might be the cap but doubtful.

Others have reported a puddle in the same location from a bad degas bottle. I'd check that first.

Very well could be A/C compressor oil ! do a search .but as said above does the color match whats in the degas tank if not my bet is the compressor

Mike, can't add much to what's been said, other than that when we developed a puddle in the exact same location, it was the degas bottle.

HA! Good one Roger But no. Haven't had a cat for 4 years.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I think I'm going to start with the degas bottle.

When I tipped a paper towel into the fluid it appears to be the same as what is on the garage floor.

The level in the degas bottle it not dropping very much at all but the drops on the floor aren't increasing either.

Could be a crack in the bottle that opens and closes with temperature.
