Anyone found a solution to improve AM radio reception? With the antenna embedded in the windshield, even the very strong AM station from Baltimore is weak at my house only 20 or so miles away. I really would like to get something to boost the signal. And yes, I still listen to AM radio occasionally , mainly because of talk radio.

 Re: AM Radio Reception

There was a service bulletin adding something to the radio for AM radio reception. I don't recall exactly what it was but I know I kept the part. I didn't have it put on because I rarely used AM. I would offer to look for the part but I won't be back in Minnesota for at least another month.

I don't remember what the service bulletin is but I do remember asking the dealer about it in about 2003 and either my car didn't apply or it didn't help any.

The first time I noticed it I touched the top of the antenna in the windshield and it did improve the reception...(not good for long drives!)

 Re: AM Radio Reception

On my 2003 it depends on the station frequency. Fortunately, the Warriors/Giants/49ers are on KNBR-680 so I am fine most of the time. But, Bloomberg-960 is a bust most of the time. It also depends on the weather and time of day. At night without a power line near by I can even get the LA station, KNX-1070 (about 450 miles).Frank

 Re: AM Radio Reception

2002 Radios have an interference problem from the car's computer wiring. You can hear a buzzing sound on some weak stations.

Ford replaced my ECU and applied some wiring fixes that did not work.
You just have to live with it and don't tell the person you are selling the car to.

 Re: AM Radio Reception

A lot of the AM reception depends on the wattage a station is broadcasting with and also some stations have to cut power in the evening because they don't have a clear frequency.
I don't believe there are any signal boosters for AM that actually work.sigpic
