Mike I have used a couple of these products on Models trying to get chrome effect . Paint adhered well, covered well but didn't look a thing like chrome.
Well, I thought I was on to something! I searched and found Mueller Corporation in MA and a customer service rep, Jackie. Very nice contact but told me Mueller does not deal directly with individual public contacts but they do work with restorers and others "in the business." They do vacuum metalizing to plastic. She gave me the number and name to Instrument Specialities in R.I. and Marissa, she was very nice too, but the onesie or twosie part fix is not what they do either. I don't know if we could entice them to do more is we grouped our needs together.
Danny, if you keep working the fix, I will too. You are much further ahead than I am with both handles removed and stripped of the chrome finish. Some have mentioned powder coating as a possibility. I know chrome is OEM but why wouldn't black or a complimentary color to blend with the exterior/interior color. For example, I would do black to blend with my interior or maybe a white shade to match the exterior. Probably will need to think way out of the box on this.
One response back from instrument-specialties
Hello Dan,
We can chrome these, but our process is not what is recommended on these, they should really be electroplated. That is a more durable coating, more suitable to something being handled like these.
Thanks,
Thomas
Wonder how the durability would be, I had a lot of plastic rechromed on various projects many years ago, and some of it had issues wearing off, and some peeled, although much of it still looks great to this day.

What about hydrographics, also known as hydro-dipping, as an alternative? Various patterns to choose from, carbon fiber for example.
"How Plastic Chrome Plating and Electroplating Services Work
Modern techniques of chrome plating service to non-metal and plastic surfaces have evolved, but still reflect industry and time-proven methods.
These are the basic processing steps performed by Classic Chrome Plating when electroplating non metallic surfaces:
Thorough application of acid with a chrome base prepares the surface for electroplating services.
Neutralization and removal of excess acid exposes a ready surface for plastic chrome plating.
Initiate chroming process on the prepared non-metal surface with a specialized proprietary conductive coating. The core elements of the solution will later form a lasting bond and catalyst for sure electrolysis between copper and nickel in the final chroming process.
Copper and nickel are the two main metals used in final chrome plating service when all preparations have been made. The base coating of nickel, through electrolysis, creates a surface on any material that is properly prepared to assimilate a final chrome coat.
This entire process is simply a way to give an object, made of some other material than metal, the ability to handle an electrical current. Once a surface has become conductive, it can then undergo receive chrome coating. In the great majority of chroming projects, copper electroplating is used to form a shell that is soft and can expand with heat during the process."
We're lighter. We're faster. If that don't work, we're nastier.
We're gonna make history.
From M&M Metalizing
Cost for vacuum metalizing (looks like chrome, not as durable or long lasting, not show quality) $55.00ea, and for triple plated, show quality chrome $325.00ea. Thank You, Mike
From CREATIONS N'ACHROME
I can chrome the door handles. Just keep in mind it is paint that looks like chrome and can be scratched or chipped. I can’t guarantee how long the finish will last. My quote is $125 for prep and spray on chrome and my turnaround is about 4-5 weeks.
