If this is the one you mean, Mercedes SLs are going for over $1M these days. That's a LOT of regret, but we make our decisions based on circumstances
and we can never look back.

1961 Ford Sunliner convertible with 390 CI 375 HP from the factory with 3 deuces and four on the floor added later. Sold it & got my first Thunderbird, a 1965 Brittany Blue.

My first car, a 1956 Buick Roadmaster 2 door hardtop Blue, White, Blue, and my 2nd car, an Acapulco Blue 1960 Thunderbird hardtop. A 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III was a great car as well.

Yes, that is the one Ted and I both missed, the gull wing. I don't have $1m of regret, in fact, I have no regret, it would have been a mistake for me. The exquisite lens, among other things, that my E-Type ate, that I regret and is the car I was happiest to be rid of! Nothing wrong with looking back and musing over "what if" as long as you leave it like that.

Like others, too many to count. On any given day it could be any one of 40 vehicles I've owned over the years. Only ones I don't regret getting rid of are those which were a total (mechanical) PITA.

Well I too have many regrets and the unpredictable high values aren't the main reason, but have to be a factor in my regrets. After reading these posts I tried to pick biggest regret. Lot harder than I would have thunk. Each one seems to have a different memory, effect and meaning in today's world. I think just on personal appeal it would be my 1936 Ford Standard coupe with a factory rumble seat. It was many years later before I realized how rare that car was.

I would have to say my 2006 Lincoln pickup. Right after I bought it I received in the mail an exact model in a clear plastic display case with the vin number on a gold label. A letter was enclosed stating that I was one of the very first to purchase a 2006 Lincoln pickup and this was a thank you gift. It was burgundy with light tan leather interior. Still have the model.

When I was in the US Navy, I bought a 1968 Dodge Dart, 383, and then added a Hurst shifter to the 4 speed in the car. It was black with maroon (dark red) interior, with black walls and poverty caps. Sold it when I was getting out of the service. I think this thread should have read "car you most would have kept if you could have."

Not #1, that position belongs to my Stingray, but #2 was a 57 Chevy BelAir, 4 dr hardtop, 3/sp Hurst, 4:11 rear, black/white top.

The year was 1961, constant night time street racing, Sunday afternoons at the drag strip, and Saturday nights at the local drive in movie regardless of the weather. (Our favorite local drive in was in the NJ Meadowlands near Giants Stadium. I don't know what was worse, the Meadowland mosquitoes or the winter cold.)

Nice car indeed. Hurst shifter mechanisms on that car were factory installed although there were a few stick variations available depending on interior.

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

I had a beautiful 1967 Chevy 2 door Impala SS. Blue with a darker blue top. Bought it new during my last year in the Navy after my last deployment. Soon afterwards I was hired by the Xerox Corp &the job included a company car, now I had 2 cars plus my brand new wife who brought into the family a very nice Thunderbird Blue colored 2 door 1966 Dodge Cornet. Her pride & joy.

Since we had just recently got married and began to furnish our home the Impala had to go to give us ready cash. The Impala value was greater than the Cornet. Imagine! HA!

I'd really like to have that one Impala back just for the memories.

My first choice would be my 1987 T-Bird Intercooled Turbo Coupe with functional hood scoops. I had a full NASCAR air dam kit on that car and really liked the looks of it. Now, you may think this is a little strange but my second choice would be my 1971 Pinto 3 Door Runabout, Grabber Green and I auto crossed it and no, my gas tank never blew up.

Don't know what they are worth today but you never see any on the road now. I also had a 1974 Pinto with more options but by that time the omissions had started and it didn't have the same kick as the 71 did.

Like Gobird, but mine was 88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Black inside & out. A very close second was my 64 Ford Ranchero. 289 C.I. built to the hills with 4 speed, Hurst T-handle shifter and also black inside and out. Clear back in late 60's it would run 12.90's around 115 MPH and it was my go to High School car.

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

The car that was the most fun and had most memories for me was a 1965 Dart GT with a 273 cu inch HP and hurst 4 speed. This was an amazing car at the time as it was not considered a muscle car. In the year I had it it had quite a reputation on the streets of Orlando The Carb. and valves in that 273 HP were same as a 383 and Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlane, 289's couldn't touch it. And it scared the heck out of the muscle guy's on the line, but the big block cubes would take over at end of 1/4 mile. I still won 14 trophies in my class, but the shock effect on the street was a blast.
I did do a few tweaks to get below 13 sec 1/4 mile but just minor stuff,,, still ran E stock
