If you are absolutely dead set on this vehicle and sure that no other T-Bird will satisfy the ache in your soul - - - have them wash the car real good. If it's still red, it may be time to move on.

I saw this earlier today and hesitated to chime in. Agree with most of what's said. If you buy this car, it's not worth a "barn find" price. I think if I were you, I'd look elsewhere. Like someone else said, it's going to cost a lot to get it going and there will be other issues as you get it going which will cost even more.

You said it had a soft top only. A hard top will be on the order of $1500 - $2000. If you still want to go ahead, make sure it is looked over by a reputable mechanic and get an opinion. Like others have said, it is easy to see that $20K is way to much for this car.

Thanks for all the options to date. I felt the same on the price and the problems I would face for the car sitting so long, despite the low mileage and condition. All I needed was to here from the owners of retro birds themselves! Joining the forum was the most positive move to date in the start of my search for a retro bird. Will keep you updated. Thanks again

There is at least one 007 and two or more PCRs available. Those are fairly limited. A LOT of ambitious prices, however.

I wouldn't bother with time or money on this 'barn-fine'. Way to much to deal with at that price. Try car fax. Lots of retro's for sale, and they will be close to your home. I wish I'd of done that before I over paid for my 2002. Id of saved 3-4K easily. Get a hard top with your purchase, to big of a hassel buying one... good luck!!

My advice is to treat whatever Thunderbird you own, as a fun car and drive it it.....fix it when it breaks down but if you are waiting for it to become a collector's item, and if that ever happens, your descendants will be the ones to benefit. As one poster mentioned, the scarcity of parts will make those that are left running more curiosity than collector material. That said, if it makes you feel good to have a low mileage pristine old bird in your garage, have at it...but just don't expect to see anybody knocking your door down to buy it.

Speaking of pristine potential collectables. On April 1st in Ft. Lauderdale a Thunderbird Blue with hard top and 890 miles on it is being auctioned "no reserve" by Auctions America. They expect between $20,000 and $30,000. I think $24K-$26K will buy it. We'll know in 2 weeks.

Lots of great cars for $20,000 (or less) . A few needed parts will make for a BAD experience. Move On to something else. --- Alan
