  • Wheel (and tire) advice

It looks like i'my going to need new wheels and maybe tires. (I do have new 17" tires I can use, but I'll get new matching tires if I find the "right" wheels)
If you were starting with a clean sheet of paper and the only consideration was "will they (fit) work? What would you put on an '04, Merlot/sand/sand.

My first thought is chrome lace ("wire") wheels with white walls, but I'm open to anything .

I'm guessing there are those here that have looked at and for wheels but we're put off because it meant having to do both wheels and tires or because of cost or inconvenience. Those are not going to be the "deciding factors in this case.

The number one and two factors will be "workable" and aesthetics.
    What would you do?

Dot Lang's section on custom wheels could be helpful.

I'm a fan of Lincoln LS and Jaguar wheels that are direct bolt-ons.

Use the search function for tires and get more opinions ....................

COntinental DWS in 55s. 50 or 55s is a decision for you also. Good Luck.

I agree with Chuck, the NM/007 wheels make every retrobird I've seen them on look better. To me the next best choice is the 16 spoke 04/05 wheels that have been chromed.

With either of those you can use the tires you already have. A good thing because unless you are very lucky getting a set of either would not be cheap.

That's basically how i did approach the wheel/tire decision, but limiting it to readily available product (i.e., no custom made Foose wheels) when I switched my wheels and tires. My design/desire model is the Foose Speedbird, so I was looking for a traditional 5-spoke look. I settled on the 18" Maverick wheel by American Racing.

I've got the same American Racing 5 spokes as JohnA has. I went with 235/55/17 with Michelin A/S Sport Plus tires. I also have drilled and slotted rotors with red caliper Tbird covers..I saved my old 7 spokes too! And it looks like I'm saving my old grill too!
