  • Who knew about this?

I got these photos today from Mark Grassnig. This VIN number one was given to the Henry Ford Museum at a big celebration. Note that someway a Thunderbird Blue got in the picture (Nancy). Harry, will you see what information you have, I see some red but no hardtop? Note a Torch Red was also there.

I recall that Bill Ford was driving a TB on the day of the event.

Although the 2002 black 100001 is the lowest VIN, there were between 284 and 297 Thunderbirds built before it. The first batch of retrobirds were made 3/14/2001 and this one wasn't built until 6/11/2001. There's no telling what the blue and red ones were.... VIN 2y100001 thru 2y100008 were all black, 100009 thru 2y100014 were all red, 2y100015 was white.

What else do you want to know about it?

July 20, 2001 was Ford's Employee Launch Party, when these cars were show cased for employees. That is where & when those pictures were taken. The production cars had not been shipped out yet to any dealers.

Ron, click on my link in my above message to view even more photos of other cars also shown that day. There are hardtops on some of them.

And to answer your question about who knew about this? Those that were on Thunderbird forums and discussions groups knew about it at that time. As I recall, some of the organized Thunderbird clubs had been asked to attend and drive their Thunderbirds.

I believe this car was delivered to Earl Tindol Ford. I remember seeing it at his place when we visited there.

Paul remembers correctly. and vin #0016 went to Dallas, TX to the home of Amos Minter. It is still in his family as his daughter drives it now.

For 2Y100001 it had a full red interior with a black hardtop - no dealer listed just MICHIGAN.

From VIN 2Y100001 until VIN 2Y100504 I have no data for what dealer got them EXCEPT 2Y100013 went to Galpin Ford. For all the rest, with a few exceptions, the dealer state is listed as Michigan and dealer name is either blank or listed as "UNASSIGNED PRODUCTION"
VIN 2Y100375 thru 2Y100379 (2 blacks, 2 reds, and a yellow) went to Canada, four of them to Oakville and one to Quebec. Beginning with 2Y100505 they have a receiving dealer listed.

Dot, FYI, 2Y100016 was black with a black hardtop and full red interior.

Any info? How many did they crash test?

We're lighter. We're faster. If that don't work, we're nastier.
