  • Fingerprints...AAAUUURRRUUUGGGHHH!!!

I have an MS Gray bird, and if you barely touch it, an ugly fingerprint remains. Of course I carry a soft cloth and some detail spray with me all the time, but fingerprints are inevitable!

My biggest problem is that I have adopted a bad habit when closing the door as I'm getting out of the car. To keep from placing fingerprints, or a palm print, I grab the little 1/2 inch door lock at the top of the door for leverage and swing the door shut. Every time I do it, I think, "one of these days, I'm gonna break that sucker!"

This may sound like a stupid question, but do any of you other obsessive compulsive personalities have an idea of how I can get out of my car and close the door without leaving fingerprints?!?!

Tim, perhaps you should seriously consider psychoanalysis?

Maybe a good pair of driving gloves would work??

I have a white car. Fingerprints really aren't a problem.

My Merlot is the same way. Sometimes I use the lock pull method, sometimes the back of my hand on the window. The best method is to have a handkerchief in your back pocket and use that

        Tim,
I close the door the same way you do with the door lock. However, I have replaced my door lock with a meta one which is probably less prone to fracture.

I just woke up.....( its about 6:30AM here ). Reading this thread gave me a good early morning laugh. If this is our biggest problem, we all have it made in the shade.
I grab the tip of the door and close it.

I generally use my foot - that way I avoid fingerprints entirely. ;-)

I hear ya tbirdman...my MSG is like a finger print magnet! I keep a cotton diaper in the drivers door pouch for just that reason. My wife always laughs at me beacuse it takes me 5 minutes to figure out how to close the trunk in such a way so that I don't leave any prints behind...I've found pulling down on the trunk lid latch loop and removing your hand a split second before it's crushed between the trunk lid and body is the best technique!!

                    A.J.,
That is the best way to close the trunk and not get fingerprints but I'm sure we will hear someday that someone's reflexes were a little slow. Hopefully it won't be me.

                      Only wealthy people have Thunderbirds

Just have your doorman close the door for you. He already has the white cotton gloves.

Gee, I knew I was missing something with all my wealth, a doorman. I'll go right out this afternoon and buy one. Anyone know of a store that sells good doormen cheap?

Merlot too? Now I'm gonna have to go and check MY car doors!

Ray, I'm sorry, but if I go around wearing white gloves, then they're SURE to institutionalize me! And I bet you owners of white Tbirds have literally thousands of smudges and fingerprints all over your cars. The next time I drive past a white car, I'm going to think... "what does that car REALLY look like?"
