  • Replacing rear upper and lower control arms for a 2003 bird

What is the cost of replacing either side upper and lower control arms? the dealer is talking about $1200 !!! Can you do the job yourself???

I did upper and lower on both rear sides and I did the upper on both front sides. I found the arms in between, RockAuto, CARID and Ebay. The most expensive one and a bit harder to find will be the lower rears, but you will find them and I think I paid about $130.00 each. If you have a good set of tools and have done brake jobs before and know how to remove simple suspension parts it is not hard at all. There is no bolt that is impossible to get too and good breaking bars will help you along. In the rear Lowers be careful as to the date of manufacture of the car as there is a cutoff date sometime in 2003 where it switches to another part number.

The cutoff date is actually 11/17/02, I see them on Rock Auto...

After you do them, get the car aligned. You have to do the rears too.

Doesn’t hurt to have access to the shop manual. My wife bought me mine when we first got the car in 2006. Has helped me a number of times with repairs I would have taken to a shop. Good luck
