  • 2004 Black with merlot soft top

Dot, this question is probably for you...This weekend I met someone with a black 2004 Tbird with a merlot softtop. The owner claimed it was 1 of 100 made. I wasn't sure if it was factory, but I checked www.portholeauthority.com, and evidently they were made...out of curiosity, was it only 100? It's actually a very cool look, from the street from the reflection of the top, I thought the car was like a weird blackcherry kind of color, but it was black.

Also, the owner claimed that he couldn't mount wheels from another year Tbird...I told him that all Tbird wheels are interchangeble from all years...I'm correct in my assumption, right?

Brad, Answering this question a year late - just found it.

yes, merlot softtops were available on the 04 blacks in the later half of the production year. Merlot on black body - only 12 made - from the file stats I have.
Merlot soft top on merlot and black bodies - 98, but that count may be off by a couple of soft tops as i've heard the 100 number, too.

Brad, you're right in your statement about the wheels. My 02 ran around with 04 wheels for several years before I damaged one of the wheels.

The owner may have heard that the 04 hubcaps didn't interchange with the early style wheels and didn't realize that the wheels would still interchange and one would have to use the early style hubcap on the early style wheel.

aside from the info, I would really love to see one of those merlot softtops on the black. Hope you "run into" him again and can get him to post some photos of his bird on the net if you're unable.
