  • Random useless facts about 2002-2005 Thunderbirds

    .
    .
All 2002-2005 Thunderbirds were equipped with traction control EXCEPT the 427 2002 Deluxe models ordered for the U.S. market. These are order code 100 (Deluxe without hardtop) and order code 120 (Deluxe with hardtop). Premium models for all years had the traction control as did all cars, including order code 100 & 120, built to the Canadian specs. There were no Thunderbirds built after 2002 without Traction Control.

Just seeing 427 and Thunderbird in the same sentence makes me very happy.

The same thought ran through my mind for a second Newman, when I saw '2002' and '427' in the same sentence.

Who can forget Chevy's 427 powerplant with 435 HP? We can only imagine what that might be like in a Retro.

You're absolutely right, Harry. That's definitely a useless fact. Got any more?

Question Quickdraw: a dealer could have placed an order for traction control on a 120 code deluxe with hardtop as it was an option. Were there any like that?

Since there were only 427 deluxe models without traction control, do we know if most of them were bought by say car rental companies for use in Florida or other fair weather areas?

Really getting esoteric now.... yes, there were 191 2002s with order code 120A and TC.

No, they seem to be from cold weather states too and none appear to be rental cars...

Fleeting vision of a Ford FE 427 medium-riser side-oiler with twin Holleys and Holman-Moody cam vibrating the whole car while idling passed through my mind. Sigh...

I just checked. Nope, no 427 under my hood. 'Might make it a bit nose heavy, though.
