  • 2002 Production numbers

I've been told that production of the 2002 has come to an end. Has anyone heard the final production total? I know it was somewhat more than the originally projected 25000.

I am a newbie also, I heard that they were going to produce only 25000 but my dealer tells me that they extended the production run so who knows. The fewer the better.

Ford makes 25,000 T-birds per calender year. The 2002 model year was extended 4 months so there will be 30,000 plus 2002s. The switch to 2003 is November 18th and Ford will probably only build about 15,000 before starting the 2004s in July.

I was on Ebay just now and saw one for sale with a VIN that ended in 295XX. So, the 30000 plus estimate is probably pretty accurate.

That is upsetting. I am sure I'm not alone on this, but another big reason I purchased the 02 T-Bird was because there were only supposed to produce 25K per year.

Oh well. I am still estatic about owning one, and if I had to go back in time knowing more would be produced, I would have still bought one--possibly two.:fordsrule:

The VINs go even higher than that - someone gave me a 34000 series VIN# a week ago.

I figure that they'll just average out the numbers/year and the 2003s will be less than 25000 as they end that production in June. that's only a rumor though - no concrete facts til it actually happens. AFter all, we expected the 02s to end production in mid-August and that got changed sometime in May or June or July - don't remember exactly on that anymore.

The last 2002 T-bird will drive off the production line at Wixom Thursday morning!
The final VIN# will be close to 32000.

The Highest 2002 VIN number appears to be 31559. The last T-bird on the line was #1582, VIN#131558. That means around 31,500 2002s were built. This is not official Ford info, just observations from the line.

                              Last 02

Ron, thanks for the info on VIN 31599. I think that answers the question on how many 02's were built. Mind my asking how you get such insight into the Wixom plant? I hope who ever buys the car gets "last 02 as their license.
